Video: PMG shares with employees his vision for the future of USPS

PMG Pat Donahoe has detailed an outline for building on the Postal Service’s recent successes by expanding delivery options and expanding consumer access to USPS products.

Donahoe begins his latest State of the Business video by thanking employees for their continuing effort through the holiday season and during severe winter weather.
“We had a big challenge with the weather,” Donahoe says. “We really came through this holiday season. You did a tremendous job across the board. We had about a 15 percent increase in packages,” including many delivered on Sundays.

Amazon, eBay, Macy’s department stores and others are among the retailers taking advantage of Sunday service, Donahoe says. “Others are in the pipeline and Priority Mail will be moving in that direction,” Donahoe says, helping USPS expand its market share.

To help promote growth and improve processing efficiency, Donahoe said the Postal Service will refocus on the 24-hour clock. First introduced in 2006, the program is designed to improve time management and coordination in the mail processing network.

Donahoe also addresses the Postal Service’s partnership with Staples, noting it’s an excellent opportunity to expand the Postal Service’s ability to go where the customers are. “The whole goal with Staples is to provide [expanded consumer] access for postage and postal products like Priority Mail,” he says. “We’re going to continue to press for as many options and as much customer convenience and access to our products as possible.”

As always, Donahoe concludes his message by once again thanking employees for “the excellent work you’ve done under really tough conditions.

  2. Easy Just Start Firing the lazy employees, the money milkers, limit unions power, firing lying management that hide mail to be worked and cheat the game to look good

  3. Clear vision as to what is necessary to create revenue to cover the nonessential past services that are not in demand. PARCEL DELIVERY is the future need to create positive bottom-line numbers. Operations need to be adjusted to accommodate what consumers demand which generates revenue growth. Online shopping will continue to increase and USPS should direct operations to increase market share. 5 day street delivery for ordinary delivery with increase cost for time service at extra cost same as UPS and FED X. Delivering waste paper bulk business mail creates a nonprofit organization debt laden postal service. Need a VERA to reduce high cost labor and continue to replace vacancies with program now being used.

TSP stop drinking the Kool Aid…..The laziest carrier costs the USPS more money than any manager in a AO…And of course the union loves the lazy people because then it gives them something to do…Overpaid, unnecessary, unproductive, and unethical that is the NALC and saturday delivery….Save Billions by cutting saturday…Screw the union because all they care about is your money….

    Giving poor service to our customers is not right
    We are a service to the American taxpayers, like the Police Dept,Fire Dept and our Armed Forces.

  7. Waste Management. The types that are hand picked by mismanagement have no idea as to dealing with realities in
    managing employee groups (clerks-carriers)in getting the job done. Comparable to PASS system used years ago. No qualifications need other than buddy system with management. Bully style is chief characteristic in becoming a member of waste management. Job knowledge and positive motivation does not serve their purpose.

U can come in everyday and all your customers R happy with the service U give them and the next day a supervisor will come say U missed a scan .I just look at them and say “what does that have to do with customer service”…..they just walk away and that is just one example of waste and harassment that is put on carriers each and everyday.I have 32 yrs in and 1 yr to go….can’t wait.We R like the Titanic ,in as the ship is going down the Captin is staring in the sky as the ship sink.I could tell U more about waste but I’m getting on a lifeboat to make it one more year.

    The laziest carrier, does more in one day, than the hardest working mgr does in a week.

  10. You people are nuts!!!! Look around at the garbage that is getting hired these days….. The PMG doesn’t do the hiring ladies !! This place is screwed!!! So with that I say, before it all goes to crap….. 5 day delivery!!! At least I can enjoy a few weekends. Before I go on unenployment….. Christ every key else seems to be on it lately?? Christie2016

Scott agree with most of what you said but your fustration with management seem to be clogging your brain….There are bad management and bad craft employees, but there are good management and good craft employees….Managements job is to get the most out of the workers in a day….NALC and management contract says a fairs day of work is supposed to be agreed upon between management and the worker..But too many workers don’t want to do the job and think it is their right to go slow and do nothing….Donahue is doing what any leader of a big businees should do, you don’t like him because he is against your union which does nothing for the good worker….5 day here we come I want my Friday night back….

  13. Its snowing and PMG is telling VPs and DMs to get the carriers out to deliver mail and they are not to get stuck or have an accident. Confused, only 12 inches of snow with rear wheel LLVs. Already with bad transmission and engines. Agency is broke, lets accept it, someone has to learn from them how to waste time.

  14. What does Donohoe mean “we”? Was he out in the blizzards? Was he burdened down during Christmas with supervisors on his ass about MSP scans? Was he shot or attacked after being out after dark?
    Just like most high level management, he was a clerk, no disrespect meant to them, who quickly moved up thanks to the right connections, ass kissing and who knows what else.
    It’s the same in all businesses – with the exception of some, I realize, but overall the good workers are left doing the real work and seldom if ever get to rise up to management because without them grinding it out day after day the business would fail. It’s basically useless back stabbers and idiots who are attracted to management. After 29+ years, it’s the same with many in high union positions, and it pains me to say so because I used to have aspirations to maybe work full time for the NALC, especially in an area where I excelled, like bad management behavior and the Joint Statement on Violence in the Workplace. But, since I was from a small city that made no difference in the election of my NBA, I was going nowhere while all the energy went to the six or seven large cities in the Region, leaving small offices to fend for themselves because it was too inconvenient.
    I hear tales from some of these higher ups who are proud that they had microscopic routes and lollygagged and fucked off all day trying to set the worst possible example they could for everybody else. I view that as unprofessional and infantile. Unions can’t expect to improve their public image or gain political support by being lazy corrupt goof offs. We had one or two branch presidents like that at different times, and those carrier/presidents were the most unpopular and disliked people on the workroom floor because their lazy attitude was catching to others and the rest of us had much longer routes to take up their slack. That is wrong. Period. When you agree to work for any employer, you must be willing to do your best regardless of whether it’s fifty cents or fifty dollars an hour. If you don’t want to do that, quit and get out of the way. You’re not doing your share of the load and you know it.
    I’ve been president and/or steward for probably 17 years, and have always had tough routes, my current route being around 960 stops. I’m not boasting, but my members respect me and we’re a more powerful branch for it because they see their officers, including my current steward, busting our asses but not running or being stupid.
    Bottom line is: without craft, management wouldn’t have their jobs, meaningless as they are. They owe their livelihoods to us and want to cut wages, benefits and destroy collective bargaining as a thank you. They have brought the Service to its knees and are too arrogant and stupid to accept that fact. PMG Donohoe, you’re a charlatan and your compliments are insulting to us. We hate your self serving videos where you think you’re some star, and we don’t believe a word you say. Just like your idiotic VOE’s, which have never asked a relevant question as long as they’ve been here.
