In his latest State of the Business video, PMG Pat Donahoe describes the progress USPS has made mid-way through 2013, along with some of its plans for the rest of the year.
Donahoe says the Postal Service made notable improvements in delivery times thanks to employee efforts to raise service performance. “Our service continues to remain at all-time highs with the on-time delivery of all the mail — First-Class Mail, periodicals and standard packages,” he says.
Revenue also increased by $400 million, due to increased package business and Standard Mail. The PMG says the new seven-year delivery contract USPS recently signed with FedEx offers substantial savings over the previous agreement.
Looking ahead to the second half of 2013, Donahoe describes upcoming changes to Priority and Express Mail. Both services will go under the name Priority Mail. To help customers determine exactly when they can have their packages delivered, USPS will offer Priority Mail 1-Day, 2-Day and 3-Day services along with Priority Mail Express.
Along with guaranteed delivery times, customers will benefit from the Postal Service’s progress in scanning. Donahoe notes that USPS has produced 2.5 billion more scans this year than last.
“This is going to give us tremendous coverage and the real-time scans our customers want,” he says. “That means a lot more package business and a lot more revenue.”
The PMG closes the video by thanking employees for their continued hard work. “You’re doing a great job,” he says.
ever been to a large grocery-chain at 6pm on saturday or during the week? most checkout stands are manned even the dusty ones on the very end..they know people will either walk-out lving the purchase behind or simply never shop there again..ever been ina fedex/ups store? i have never seen a line to make a purchase even in a large-city! since they have these stores all around as does a starbucks one in most hoods..and they are manned by at least 2-3 clerks and they handle private pob mail as we do..yet so how they either are paid extremely well or know how to keep joe-customer from line-snaking out da door! a all to common event at ANY US POST OFFICE.. the common practice of driv-by and 1st sight seeing the line at any US-POST OFFICE parking lot is common.everyone thinks the usps is a dreaded’ event much like renewing your driver’s license or obtaining one a all-day nightmare!!! that is what most people i talk to refer da USPS customer-lobby ANYWHERES USA!!
I agree with the statement that the customer svc begins in the purchase-lobby.
I have never heard a positive/favorable feedback from any one customer when visiting ANY’
post office to do a purchase..the biggest complaint is the lack of personal at the 4-6 windows a city-large post office should have at least 4 window clerks min..yet with all the talk of curtailing jobs you will see less than one’ even in months to come.. it all starts at the purchase-window.. the pmg and his minions seem to think clerks are more expendable than us carriers because they have lots of down-time or wasted time on the clock..when in fact the overlapping ranks of management from him-down are the real time wasters..but draw much bigger salaries than a maxed out clerk..nothing will work as far as restructure how the mail moves or is purchased and boxed to move if you 1st don’t have the clerks and carriers NOT managers to move it!!
off topic comment so don’t read if that bothers you:
just curious as to why this site allows the disgruntled former apwu president billy burrus to use this website as a ‘money maker?’ this site frequently posts burrus’ trash articles and then burrus tries to sell a book at the bottom of whatever nonsense he writes. if you want to include burrus trash along with other viewpoints, fine. but don’t include the advertisement for burrus to try to sell his garbage. i have a feeling burrus would shut up and go away very quickly if he couldn’t ‘use’ the site to put cash in his pocket.
No Saturdays yet???? Then who cares!!!!
THINGS ARE LOOKING UP.NO?
Changing priority and express….I have to ask-do the postal heads in DC literally sit around a big table and think of ways to screw things up and confuse customers? Whoever comes up with the most senseless and useless change probably gets a big fat promotion, no doubt.
Customers are not happy and confused with the tracking labels auto print out without the details of the destination if they have many priority mails to be mailed.
Hey Issa I wish we could hook you up to a lie detector test and have the truth come out about your under the table deal with PMG Donahue. You two are in bed together and want to make huge amounts of money privatizing the post office.
I’ll have to change my name from nyc carrier to happy long island carrier
I just got my transfer through e-reassign. Going as full time regular and getting a route. Saving $350 travel expends per month and 3 hrs a day round trip travel. This has nothing to do with PMG speach. Just want to share my good fortune. If I have to stay at least I’m way closer to home.
So when will the next round of “early outs” be announced?
Northlander should be PM but these companies only want to hire machines and technology $$$ to do the job. Going with people to do the job is so old school plus we cant trust people as well as machines and technology. Lmfao that’s the new way they are thinking. Screw workers
Priority mail has always been a 1, 2 or 3 day service, depending on the destination. It it’s local it gets there in 1 day, just not guaranteed, like express mail is.
Priority 1 day mail sounds like express mail you can get it buy 12. how long has express been around, why don’t they promote
Express mail and its cost advantage over other carriers, Na lets just make more category’s and change all the packaging again at the cost of 100’s of millions, f_cking morons.
when is he going to get his 5 day mail delivry on target w/ no sat? this is only way he can save real money.
My Son send a priority mail on May 9th from Boston received mail on the 15th. [not so good]
Long lines at the Post Office because of shortage of clerks.[poor service] When to three Post Offices long lines to the door[unhappy customers]
What happen to extra income from advertsing on trucks and other ways to make money? No action from the PMG or Congress except to get rid of employees
Let’s see what the turn over rate will be for new employees, with no benifits and low pay.
How much bonus did he get?
