Police: Postman charged with DUI after crashing mail truck

(Chicago) A U.S. Postal Service worker was charged with drunken driving after he crashed a mail truck while on duty and injured himself Friday afternoon on the Near West Side, police said.

Thomas M. Hackney, 40, of the 7200 block of Carolina Avenue in Hammond, Ind., was charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol, police said.

Hackney smelled of alcohol and had glassy, bloodshot eyes, and told police he “drank a little bit last night,” but a blood test revealed his blood alcohol level was 0.204, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08, according to the report.
