A Portland letter carrier will be arraigned Friday on accusations of mail and identity theft after an investigation by the U.S. Postal Service and the Portland Police Bureau.
John Paul Osburn, 32, will be arraigned Friday in a Justice Center courtroom on 114 counts of mail theft, 30 counts of identity theft and drugs and weapon charges, said assistant special-agent-in-charge John Masters of the Office of Inspector General for the post office.
Osburn is accused of stealing all classes of mail that he was given to deliver on routes in Northeast Portland, Masters said. “It a significant amount,” he said.
Masters said a storage unit owner discovered thousands of pieces of mail in a locker that had been rented by Shawna Marie Barrett, 33, an acquaintance of Osburn.
The unit was put up for auction when the rent went unpaid and opened Tuesday. Postal service investigators, with help from the Portland Police Bureau, recovered the mail and other evidence Wednesday and again on Thursday.
Sigh. Here we go again. What a skank. This guy is a bonafide piece of shit, stealing identities, mail, a druggie and weapon freak to boot, at least according to charges. He needs to be taken off the street permanently in a federal prison where inmates serve their entire sentences and don’t get cushy weekend leave privileges and such. In my state, a convicted murderer can have weekend furloughs and go home to do whatever they want. That is wrong. Real wrong.
I want customers to know that douche bags like this guy are few and far between. I might be getting crabby in my 30 years of service, but I do all I can to get the right mail to the right person, and always have. Accuracy and reliability mean a lot to me, even if it doesn’t to the crop of newbies coming in. Don’t lump all carriers into a basket with this sleaze bag.
