DUBLIN, OH (WCMH) — Police say a naked United States Postal Service employee shot a supervisor to death early Saturday morning at a post office before attacking and killing another supervisor at her home.
It happened at 4:25am Saturday at the United States Post Office on the 6400 block of Emerald Parkway.
According to documents from the Franklin County Municipal Court, postal employees told Dublin Police they saw 24-year-old suspect Deshaune Stewart naked in the sorting bay. He was pointing a handgun at 52-year-old postal supervisor Lance Herrera-Dempsey.
One of the witnesses said he saw Stewart, a post office employee, shoot Herrera-Dempsey twice: Once while standing, and once when the victim was on the ground. Stewart then allegedly fled.
Two postal employees told police they knew Stewart and had seen him at the facility over the past several years. They added he was supposed to be at work at 7 a.m. Saturday.

I can’t believe this never happened in my office. Worst management’s game I have ever seen in my life
I pray this does not happen at Lehigh Valley. The working conditions here are deplorable.
The carriers that hate the union so much, and also brag about FDX and UPS should consider quitting the Postal Service and work for the better employers. Just think FDX is union free. Your working life will be so much enjoyable! And for UPS, many of their employees aren’t happy at all. But you know that.
just got my rag sheet from Long Island, NY Merged Branch 6000-NALC. President wrote an article about your job security that said you should “sell” “Customer Connect” so some mismanagement pig can get a bonus. typical of NALC reps who sit in a nice warm office riding a desk and have their nose up po mismanagement’s a@@! in addition, with all the help you have given this corrupt agency, you only can count on more and more abuse.I would not help them find the bathroom door.I have a much better idea, open a Scottrade stock account and start buying a few shares of UPS, FDX, AMZN a month, each and every month until you retire……that is how you get real financial security. not doing something a company union dope tells you to do to help mismanagement and feather his own nest. they would better spend their time networking with congress to help get rid of the current po mismanagement that is running the place into the dirt, and your job and security along with it. it is really hard to believe they continue to spout this nonsense…..GO TEAMSTERS! the Carriers problem is they are being scammed from both sides! me, I now own 4300 shares of FDX, 2200 shares of UPS and 100 shares of AMZN…….who do you think has the better idea about job security and a secure retirement? ps-have maxed out my TSP account since 1986. oh yeah baby! this guy does not speak for me….never has…always been a shill for po mismanagement!
You must not be a union official or have the balls/tits to be one. Insane is bitching about it and doing nothing. this must be you. If you are not proud of what you represent “the blue shirt” then don’t disgrace it put a tie on. What a pus!
er……reply to wrong post……but hey that guy did something too……he sued the union and won without any union help. looks like another case of a corrupt union in action lol! got to love the Judge, good for him.
looks like the guy did do something about it……..UPS $118 a share, FDX $225 a share, AMZN $1,100 a share. would not say this is doing nothing. smart is as smart does! would say the guy is not a follower of union propagandar. does not fit your collective view of the world. some people just do not want to put their hands in other people’s pockets and pick them dry!
doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result is “INSANE”. I took the postal circus to court 18 years ago and won. union showed up and sat with mismanagement, judge made bailiff place a chair in the middle of the room and forced the union president to sit there under threat of contempt of court. judge also found it funny that mismanagement/union said they were still working on my grievances 10 years after I filed them. at the end of the trial the judge said I had a very strong case against the union for non-representation……so you go to union meeting like a good little useful idiot….I will just say A-PEE-U! I won and both the creeps lost.
Why do most city letters do not attend monthly union meetings .Why do some letter carriers believe there supervisor .If you think its wrong it is ask your shop stewart or call the nalc for advise. You are the union so go and be heard .Management wants to have total control over employees .So do not go to the union meetings you are making your own bed good luck then you trust management .Get involved.
I agree. Part of the reason these tragic events keep on happening is because the craft doesn’t utilize the resources they have available. I know full well the NALC is far from perfect, but there is a critical difference here: as an NALC member in good standing, you have the power to get rid of officers who will not do their duty and represent you. Vote ’em out. I will say this as a former long time NALC officer: there will always be problems with how grievances are handled, or even filed, and I know of at least one branch that is pathetically “run”.
Example: several years ago management had been getting obsessed with scanners and MSP scan points while still using the old scanners which were breaking down, failing to record, ran out of battery life, etc. We carriers and myself as the then- president dutifully and daily told the supervisor and acting postmaster that our scanners were not working. Mine would stop in mid-afternoon, and it was always the last two MSP’s and collection boxes it would miss. Others told them similar stories, documented them and did everything they were supposed to. So District got the bright idea that all these failed MSP scans were obviously “missed” by carriers, not the scanners, and we were all lying about it.
One morning I had to sit for over a hour in the union office as management had the fucking nerve to discipline 12 of us for “failed scans” on a certain day. No warning, discussion, acknowledgment they had been informed. District said discipline, and that’s what they had to do. It was the only letter of warning I ever received, and it was their equipment failure!
So I put in for grievance time, demanded it immediately, and spent a couple days preparing grievances for the 12 of us who were punished for something we were not guilty of. Local management knew I was going for the jugular, and that I would win every grievance and the accompanying harassment class action to go along with it. So after a few days they relented and removed the LOW’s. They never tried it again.
However, another nearby office had the same thing happen, and THEIR NALC president told his members he was not going to file a grievance for any of them. Said there wasn’t a “violation”. He was buddy buddy with a certain supervisor and when this supervisor wanted to go after somebody in my office for a totally false accusation, he was called by this person, and he, the NALC rep, told this supervisor how to discipline the carriers in my office!!!! This same branch was also known for lying to carriers about the JCAM, manuals, and wasn’t above ratting out other carriers they didn’t like just for fun and then refuse to represent them.
I called my Regional office about this branch interfering with our carriers’ business. I was furious, and I refused to speak to this asshole when I happened to see him around town after that.
But there is no worse thing a branch can do to its members (false discipline that isn’t grieved can result in losing one’s job) than allowing abuse and violence against workers by sadistic pinhead managers. No branch should ever tolerate crooked NALC representation – it takes guts to stand up to those corrupting the system, but you have ways to deal with it. Vote ’em out. If severe problems like theft of branch money and property are present, you can consult your Regional offices, complain, and look up how to file charges against these crooks. The callous treatment of the CCA’s by management and the NALC is inexcusable. But as much as I dislike saying so, the craft workers who refuse to act, speak out and show strength and solidarity against abuse on the workroom floor are partly responsible for allowing it to continue unabated. If your union does nothing, go to the NLRB, your legislators, media, whomever you can to make your work life safer.
I hope your retirement the last year has went great!. It is nice to see
that some value their former coworker’s rights as if it was their own.
It is true that all is lost if you can only see you own plight. Many have
made this choice sinking the positive efforts of those who are trying to
keep USPS afloat . Michigan is my state, and Royal Oak was always a
nightmare that should not have ever happen anywhere. Only fools
support the ” active shooter concept” . Wiser people should use their
first right to as why!
Someone dropped the ball ,3 hours passed before he killed the postmaster and she wasn’t notified that a murder took place at her station how does that happen, and I have worked at the post office for 31 years if this person was getting fired for not coming to work then he should have been. on the other hand I know the unrealistic expectations management puts on the cca when is someone gonna wake up, if you have carriers out after dark then there is a problem. Its time to re adjust the routes and provide good and consistant service to the public.
Hey APWU and proud get your stupid head out of your stupid asshole. This is100% percent managements fault. To me the 2 supervisors got what they deserved. Management to me have no soul and no conscious. They most definitely harassed him consistently and drumming bogus charges in him so they could get a bonus or a promotion.
I agree with the Trooper
May God comfort the families for their loses. Shame on those of you who have completely blamed the supervisors. No person, even a worthless supervisor “deserves” to be shot down like a deer! As a union rep I fight every day for clerks who will not protect their own jobs because of the fear of retaliation- this sentiment trickles down from on high. ALL the union brothers and sisters need to band together instead of tearing the other crafts down. We are 500,000 strong and if we stand together we will be heard. Instead of using your voice on here to rant – join your unions in the fight to end abusive supervisors and managers; the denigration of the middle class and unrealistic and “made up” work standards!! The carriers are late getting to their routes because of management cutting clerk jobs to the bone; then they cut the carrier routes; etc., etc., etc.
I retired a year ago, but a couple years back when we first learned of the new CCA position, we city carriers who had been around long enough to know predicted several things would happen:
Service was being chucked out the window for fast bucks, management not giving a collective rat’s ass about dependability or professional delivery. That has come true even more dramatically than I thought it would. The USPS is getting full of poorly paid, poorly trained and sometimes incredibly incompetent workers who have no guarantees of job safety or security.
The NALC would hide its head from all the abuse coming to the CCA’s, preferring not to bother wasting time and money on anybody who wasn’t a career carrier. That too has come true.
Those in management who were kept in some sort of check against their own sadistic behavior toward career carriers would delight in the CCA program, with the relative freedom to be absolute tyrants and not fear retribution from the union.
True again.
The stress levels would reach and exceed the levels that helped cause the mass murders in Edmond, Oklahoma and Royal Oak, Michigan. True one more time.
And before we neatly blame management and only management, let’s look at this situation as objectively as possible. First, not everybody in management is a psychotic terror. It’s easy to lump them all in the same box, but while I certainly had my share of horrifying supervisors and PM’s, my last several years were quite tolerable thanks to a postmaster who actually worked very hard, a couple great supervisors who were on the carrier’s side whenever possible, and our local NALC branch who had the history of protecting us from the abuses we read and hear so much about. I was an officer in the NALC for a very long time, and I certainly could not lay claims to being the greatest ever (I did my best at them, but I hated the route inspection grievances, overtime and other scheduling problems that were just a storm of numbers), but when it came to treating my carriers with respect, I would and did fight like a wildcat and filed Joint Statements Against Violence and Behavior In The Workplace, called the district threat assessment team often as necessary (very important step because if you are in a really abusive office, you want to leave a trail of attempting to stop the horrible behavior with all means at your legal disposal, and it will leave a trail with higher management that proves they know what is going on and do nothing), and the NLRB.
But here’s the sad truth: my union, whom I fought for with all my might, at higher levels, particularly the national level, has remained far too quiet about this whole situation. Fred Rolando just doesn’t have the passion and guts to go after management like his predecessors Bill Young and Vince Sombrotto did. All we get is weak sloganeering from time to time, and the abuses continue.
At local offices, if your local NALC branch won’t fight for their carriers, preferring instead to roll over and let management run amok because the NALC officers can hopefully get baby routes, enjoy management allowing them to get away with murder as far as their own work goes, and pick and choose whom to defend, if they bother at all, you must act. You pay dues and your branch is legally responsible for representing you to the best of their ability. Get others interested and step up to the plate yourself.
That’s what I did. Our office for several years had a real Gomer running the NALC, and he was buddy-buddy with the craziest psychotic woman I’ve ever known. As long as his route was nice and short and he got “help” when he wanted it, among other possible favors I don’t even want to think about, nothing got done.
A good friend asked me to steward for him, and he knew I was thinking about it. I told him to get ready for the shit to hit the fan because I was going to stop the abuses one damn way or another. It took a while, and a lot of fight, harassment and abuses toward me as management tried to fight back, but eventually the supervisor and PM were both forced into leaving the office and retiring shortly thereafter.
Management must be held responsible for starting the whole thing. But expect nothing except the usual bullshit press releases. It’s time to take this situation to the highest authorities possible. Legislators, the NLRB, AFL-CIO, your NALC Region offices, whatever it takes. You have every right to not have to work in this environment, and you can’t depend on any outsider to start fighting for you.
Way too many Supervisors that shouldn’t be Supervising infest the “Service”. Part of the Master plan to SLOWLY destroy with the help of Koch.
THE POSTAL SERVICE SHOWS AGIN THEY DONT CARE ABOUT THEIR EMPLOYEES.HOW IS IT THAT THIS ANIMAIL ENTERED INTO THE BUILDING NAKED AND WITH A FIREARM.WE NEED PROTECTION AS WORKERS LIKE METAL DETECTORS AND POSTAL POLICE AT THE GATES.SHAME ON YOU POST MASTER GENERAL WAKE UP .
past time to “Right Size” EAS pay……….this bureaucratic business model is completely broken. the misery index is at 110%
Really! Lives lost and you agree? Instead of looking at the end result what needs to be looked at is how did this issue get to this point. There are too many other avenues that was at this employee’s option that was not utilized thus preventing such a tragic event to occur. Would you feel the same if one of these individuals was your relative? I think not!
Just get FMLA. If some scumbag supervisor gets out of line, burn a few days of sick leave, hit a beach bar and relax. Dot your I’s, cross your T’s, and there is nothing management trash can do about it. 😄👍🏽
Good for the 2 supervisors. They got what they exactly deserved may the the 2 supervisors rot in HELL hooray.lol
Theguest – You are a moron.
All of you should be ashamed of yourselves. Three lives are destroyed, their families are suffering and you can’t stop the stupidity of your ignorant comments.
May God give comfort to all the ones hurting for this senseless act of violence.
Function 1 Scheduler says…..2 more bite the dust. the late former PMG Marvin Runyon was on to these going postal mismanagement tools. he rooted out the rotten apple mismanagers, but they got rid of him when he pointed out that po mismanagement was overstaffed by 50%. by now it is 75%.
And after Carvin’ Marvin left,Bill Henderson, an insider from the ranks became PMG and brought back all of the useless, redundant management jobs with new titles and later after retirement wrote pieces advocating going private. A paid Koch Brothers whore.
A nutjob…keyword: Naked Postal Employee
smart move….at trial his lawyer will tell the jury the postal mismanagement tools pushed him over the edge. jury…not guilty!
Anybody knows why he was naked??
This is what happens when employees are pushed to the edge by postal management. There needs to be a congressional investigation into postal management and their tactics. Wake up people!!! People can only take so much before they crack.
Fred Rolando, the NALC president is too afraid of Megan to talk about the management cesspool when he’s called before the Congressional Oversight Committee.
You are 100% correct!!!!
The Postal Service has a long and storied history of abusive management and creating a hostile work environment – and the resulting tragic reactions by employees who have been pushed past their breaking point – and this is just the latest chapter. Who will be the next abusive postal supervisor who gets what they deserve…
Ask why 7 out 10 new carriers quit or are fired. Dois computer numbers run your route do not take breaks and lunch .Work off the clock supervisors will not change there management style why they get your money in bonus keeping hours down. There answer to this will be call eap. Same bull same management Maybe a walk out for a week.
And when the carriers report these abusive managers, they are ignored by those ( whistleblowers, OSHA , postal inspectors, OIG, the union, etc.) Even filing multiple EEOC’s is just a waste of time. Most of postal management consists of dishonest , unethical, bullies that couldn’t do the job as a carrier so decided to go into management and destroy other carriers lives with their lies and manipulations. All because they can!!!!
We are not machines ,we have names and live our life outside the postal network with respect ..the post office and its managerment ideas is to treat people as numbers and not as human.it is sad that sdos and mdos and mmos and smos live there life in fear of losing there jobs and themselves abused by upper bosses and will do anything to make upper managerment happy …this is just the beginning of many other things to come ….get out if you can they are killing people again in the post office like they did years ago and its labeled ,,going postal….
Nobody at the lower and middle level of management ever has to fear losing their jobs when the USPS management mantra is screw up to move up and screw to move up? When have they ever been held accountable when they screw up and prove to be incompetent?
I’m totally shocked that this kind of actions haven’t occurred more often than this! Here is what will happen : STATEMENT TO THE PUBLIC: POOR EMPLOYEE WASN’T IN THE RIGHT STATE OF MIND, AND WILL BLAME EVERYTHING TO BE AGAINST THAT POOR SOUL-NOTHING TO BE SAID ABOUT THE ABUSES THAT WAS PUT UPON THAT PERSON AND OR OTHER PERSONS IN THE AREA! Now fast forward to the future: ANOTHER LOSER , DUMBASS STUPIDVISOR IS PUT INTO PLACE WITH THE SAME INTENT AS THE PREVIOUS DEAD ONE(NO DISRESPECT FOR THE FAMILY) , THAT IS HOW THESE IDIOTS WORK-PERIOD! BUSINESS AS USUAL-NOTHING TO SEE HERE FOLKS, MOVE ALONG!
Hmmmmm…….I wonder why……
there is a reason why people, do what they do. there is more to this story, a lot more.
The shooter started with the USPS in May of 2015 and at a rate of 38K. I wonder if he has a background that they could have checked.
He’s a CCA paid $16 an hour,no way he’s making 38K base.
Take that up with the site that lists all of our postal employment data, you know the one.
This is what happens when the Federal government just ignores the people. Many states have enacted laws designed to make voting harder, while enabling citizens to easily purchase guns. The Federal government encourages states to enact voter suppression, while not wanting any restrictions on gun ownership. All the government does is collect tax payments, protect business and gun huggers. And leave the public to fend for themselves.
He went Postal
Beam me up ! There is no intelligent life here !
Thank you for speaking the truth!!
Let this be a message to postal supervisors who verbally abuse and assault the employees they supervise.Fraud write ups .costing employees of their means of supporting their families, are the main cause of this violence. Then management turns around and blames the employee. He’s was DISGRUNTLED ,he was a LONER, etc .Lies to demonize and distract from the REAL reason’s employees commit violence.Incompetent ,unqualified supervisors, in a who you know promotion ladder, caused this. As a 37 years of postal service retiree, i know what i’m writing about.
This same thing is Occurring in the South. Plant Manager and Labor Relation allowing new senior mdo to come in and mistreat employees and verbally abuse them. Work them like dogs, nothing said or done. Someone will b pushed to the limit!
