Postal Employees in Midwest safe despite storm damage

During the worst of the recent storms in the Midwest, more than 40 Post Offices were without power and several were damaged.

All employees were accounted for without any serious injuries. However, some reported damage to their homes. Many Post Offices throughout Illinois, Indiana and Michigan have been operating in limited capacities due to the storm damage in the communities and the offices. An Irvington, IN, building that formerly housed the town’s Post Office was undergoing renovations when it was destroyed during the storms. Many in the community were saddened by the loss of the historic property.

While several employees were unable to report to work in the days following the storm, delivery has resumed in communities where it is safe to do so
