Letter carrier attacked in Springfield, Massachusetts – Postal Inspectors, police still searching for suspects
January 23, 2015 – Springfield, MASS – Inspection Service has joined city detectives as they investigate the beating of a mail carrier Wednesday evening in the Forest Park neighborhood.
Police said the mail carrier was attacked by at least two males as he waited in his delivery vehicle for a red light at the intersection of Belmont Avenue and Oakland Street.
A witness told police that when the mail carrier got out, two members of the group began to hit him in his back. When the victim attempted to cover himself, he was punched several more times, Delaney said.
The suspects then fled toward 279 Dickinson St., and the victim took refuge in the Forest Park neighborhood post office, nearby at 393 Belmont Ave.
Delaney said the victim suffered a possible broken jaw and other injuries. He had no updates on the man’s condition Friday.
