Postal salaries up to $22.5 billion

The payroll for postmasters and other salaried employees of the U.S. Postal Service rose $113.2 million in the last year even as the struggling mail system trimmed its staff by 3,100 positions, an Asbury Park Press examination of pay records found.

The base pay for 388,823 salaried employees was $22.5 billion as of January, up from $22.4 billion in April 2013. The number of full-time employees dropped by 3,175 during the same time, according to the review of postal service payrolls.

Excluded from the payroll data are bonuses and other performance awards. The Postal Service and an appeals panel rejected the Press’ Freedom of Information Act request for the data, saying bonuses are confidential incentives that would impede its operations if private competitors, such as Federal Express and UPS, knew what was paid to top performers.

  1. Upper management could care less about the front line supervisors. All they want to do is beat them into the ground and get the numbers, they don’t care if they work 10-12 hrs a day and not get paid for it which is a common occurrence. Congress needs to form a committee and investigate what is really going on but they won’t. Management for the postal service is one of the lowest paid federal agencies, just compare them and you will see. It is embarrassing and congress should feel ashamed that they do nothing about it

  2. the craft employees that write in have no idea what’s going on. They just like to complain and do nothing. Anyone that has any brains at all knows that the EAS employees haven’t received a raise for over 3 yrs. and no, they aren’t getting any bonuses either you meat heads. Ask your supervisor before you start shooting off your chops. If EAS makes so much money, why don’t any of the craft want to step up and make the big money???

  3. I do not know what upper level managers may have received in the way of pay increases but supervisors got a whopping 1% pay raise this year and it is the first pay raise in several years. Supervisor also do not get cola so the total pay increase in a four year period has been 1%. The reduction in staff was less than 1%, at 0.8% so if 99.2% of staff got a 1% raise and there was only a 0.8% reduction in staff than the total salary would increase.

  4. that’s not true. Im an EAS mgt employee and I have not received any raises for the past 4 years, meanwhile craft and Execs have all been given raises annually. Look it before you post bad dis information.

  5. What are we talking about here, exactly? It looks like managers are STILL getting bonus and incentives “under the table!” COME ON!! Anyone who works for the post office knows that NAZI intimidation tactics work better than positive reinforcement! Maybe PMG Donuthole should be threatening managers with pay cuts and dicipline like said managers do to us peon employees! I guarantee that Mr./ Mrs. “A Carrier says,” isn’t getting a bonus for getting his/her route completed on time in spite of having to contend with “less processing centers, longer trucking times, late arriving mail, late getting carriers out etc.” And let’s be honest, not EVERYONE who works for the USPS wants to stick around for an extra 2-6 hours a day! PMG better come up with some kind of “peace offering” to reconcile with the craft employees he still has or they’re gonna rob him blind! Wake up PINKERTON!

  6. Everyone who comes to this site has to wake up….Management is going to make more money than craft, they are going to get bigger raises than craft employees….Seems like alot of jealous people in the USPS….Go to 5 day and we will save Billions….5 day here we come

  7. No dummy, wages increased due to step increases…this est is for reg pay, meaning no overtime included…do you understand or do you need further instructions….dummy.

  8. Pay is increased, as employee numbers dropped by 3175. Gee, don’t you think that the increased work load has something to do with the increase in pay. Less processing centers, longer trucking times, late arriveing mail, late getting the carriers out, the later in the day mail delivery, causes unnecessary overtime! and managers get bonus money, go figure that!

  9. “The Postal Service and an appeals panel rejected the Press’ Freedom of Information Act request for the data, saying bonuses are confidential incentives that would impede its operations if private competitors, such as Federal Express and UPS, knew what was paid to top performers.”

    What a bunch of bs.

More lies and corruption from postal mgmt.
