A local U.S. Postal Service contractor was charged with felony embezzlement on Monday.

Fields worked as a Highway Contract Route Carrier and was terminated on the day he was charged, said Lance Norrington, a public information officer with the Office of the Inspector General.

While the warrant was issued Monday, Fields’ first appearance in court was Wednesday, where the case was continued until March 4.

Fields is alleged to have embezzled at least $270 in U.S. currency and $100 in gift cards, belonging to numerous citizens, according to the warrant issued for his arrest.
