August 24, 2015 A Wayne police officer suffered head and neck injuries while riding his bike on Demarest Drive Saturday morning, authorities said.
Officer Sean Mitchell was off duty when he was struck by a United States Postal Service truck on Demarest Drive at approximately 10:20 a.m., said Capt. Laurence Martin.
Mitchell, 47, sustained head and neck injuries and was transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson, Martin said. He was wearing his helmet when the accident occurred.
Martin said that the truck exited a property in front of the officer and struck the bicycle. No summonses have been issued, he said, adding that the incident is under investigation by the township police traffic bureau. Mitchell, the captain said, was wearing his safety helmet and “distinguished marked clothing used for bicycling” when the accident occurred at 10:20 a.m. Saturday. Read more
