I do a similar job working for the postal service and traveling around the city doing minor repairs on postal trucks, I work during the morning hours when the trucks are being loaded by the postal carriers, often working during adverse weather such as rain or snowstorms, it’s sad that this mechanic got ran over and killed. It was only a accident that was just waiting to happen and I really don’t think anyone is at fault, I know after reading this that I will try to be more careful and take time to block the wheels, but it is hard to repair trucks when so many carriers are in a hurry to get their routes done, sometimes it is a challenge to keep from getting backed over or in someone’s way, I had close calls with being under a truck and having my legs in the way of another truck backing up. We all need to be careful and look out for each other.
Thank you YankeeOne…sometimes we need not to feed on the negative. I can’t comment on either person as I don’t personally know them but there are two losses…
I’m sure the driver will be replaying this over and over and he/she needs to know it was an accident that could happen to anyone…My heartfelt regards go out to both families
Its sad to hear such negative talk at a sad time as this. You probably don’t know either men involved, you probably wouldn’t like them, they where and are dedicated Postal Service employees. I have the pleasure of knowing both men, these are the guys you want working on your truck! This is nothing but a misfortunate accident. So let talk about your caricature? Lets see, you have maybe 20 years or so on the job and you belong to what I call the “ANGRY GANG” you hate the USPS but don’t want to do anything about it but flap your gums, you could get another job? But no, all you want to do is find something negative to feast on! Get a life A.H. ( figure it out). RIP Dave you will be missed. Hang in there Jack.
Seriously Corruption Job#1…it sound like you’re the one without the high IQ. Just love how you can make judgment on an incident without any backup…where u there? If so please share I’m sure we all would love to hear your menial unsubstantiated rant that does nothing other than causes heartbreak for both families involved
scuttlebutt- this repair shop fixes trucks at 117 mid-island pd&c and 115 western nassau plant. maintenance worker killed when looking for an oil leak, truck was running. another maintenance worker had his personal vehicle parked in the repair yard. (a no no unless you are a mismgt kissass) he gets off work and sees truck blocking his car and wants to go home, jumps in running truck to move it, does not notice maintenance worker under truck and runs him over.( postal workers not mensa high IQ types) osha sends team over to scope out industrial death. po mismgt will most likely throw book at mgt kiss ass for parking his car in the work zone and not being parked in the employee lot. everything is legal, until you get caught. po mismgt will throw this guy under the bus to protect their interests from osha investigation. just another day in the corrupt life of the long island division.
How far under the truck was he? did the next driver just jump in and go? were the keys in the ignition? why didn’t the driver do a walk around as policy mandates? the fleet manager should be fired along with the POOM. what the hell was he doing under the truck? the VMF is equipped with lift hoists for that purpose. The VMF needs the old accounting system back “VMAS”. The new system is probably the cause.
Truck was running checking for oil leak. Freak accident
drbombay,
why does it sound suspicious??
You know that ol’ saw, ‘trucks’ don’t kill , drivers do. Doubt seriously any intent!
Sad loss for his family and the postal service but seriously was he underneath it asleep? anybody that gets underneath a vehicle is more than aware of thier sorroundings, how he was is unaware to the point someone could enter, then start the vehicle without screaming for his life? horrible way to die and this couldve been prevented.
Sounds kinda suspicious.
