More than 150 union members braved sub-zero degree winds on Feb. 17 to deliver an icy greeting to U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa, the author of legislation (H.R. 2748) that would lead to the demise of the Postal Service.
Issa (R-CA) was in New Hampshire to deliver the keynote speech to Republican donors at the New Hampshire GOP’s President’s Day fundraiser.
Chanting “the U.S. Postal Service is not for sale,” more than 150 members of the APWU and other postal unions picketed Issa’s appearance at Grappone Convention Center in Concord. They were joined by union teachers, carpenters, members of the Alliance for Retired Americans, and other labor and civic activists.
APWU members traveled from all across New England to participate, and the big turnout made the rally “a huge success,”said Manchester Area Local President Dana Coletti.
“It was great to see so many APWU people turn out despite the weather,” he said “and to see so many others join us in solidarity.
“We had enough participation,” he added “that were able to create a second picket line to cover another entrance to the facility.”
There was a time for unions and now is not that time….It kills me that some slug next to me gets the same pay for doing less than I do….Plus when you give up the right to strike you should not be called a union….The postal service unions are orginizations that take your money…I would get all the benefits that there are now because of the way I work not because I show up….Work in the private sector and wake up, thats how people get raises…Performance….
Hey John from long island, I bet you have no problem accepting all of those negotiated benefits that the UNION has gotten for you. It’s bums like you that have no idea what the UNION has really done for you.You spend all day bashing the UNION but do nothing to make it better but take all the perks then trash the UNION your a disgrace.
H you are out of your mind…the unions are the worst thing that has happned for this country…Just ask the workers in Tennessee who rejected UAW…They don’t want to be tied with pathetic, slow working and currpot workers….Union are on the decline and that is a great thing…5 day here we come….
H u are out of your mind…the unions are the worst thing that has happned for this country…Just ask the workers in Tennessee who rejected UAW…They don’t want to be tied with pathetic, slow working and currpot workers….Union are on the decline and that is a great thing…The guy next to me who cant do his 275 stop dismount route in 8 hrs loves the union because he doesn’t have to work, overshadows the people in the offices who do their job…They are the disgrace and Rolando loves them…My union rep comes in has no idea what my name is, but the guy who can’t do his route he knows his wife and kids name…Disgrace…So all you Union lovers keep wasting your dues 23.44 a pay check, mine goes into my thrift and I will definetly be getting a bang for my buck…..5 day here we come….

The Unions are the best thing for this country good paying
middle class jobs leave us alone Washington or we will vote
you out.
This guy Issa needs to be voted out in California people
5 day delivery is what’s up !!! Can you dig??
Issa would not be in congress if he did not move into a republican controlled district as he could not win before he moved. That’s all congress does now is look where the republicans or democrat voters are and then put their people in that way. Is this constitutional? It’s like if you can’t raise at least 100 million for your campaign you can’t run for president.
The protesters are fighting a losing battle. The USPS as we knew it is going the way of the buggy whip factory and the typewriter, and there is nothing that can be done to stop it.
These folks are like the Black Knight in Monty Python’s Holy Grail, who fights on even though it is futile.
I would not encourage kids to become letter carriers, because their future would be bleak.
Well said Retired.
I think its time to face reality, even with a monopoly on first class mail the postal service can no longer survive and is reaching the end of the line, with or without help from politicians. It makes no sense to try and prop up the postal service or delay the end. If the postal service had to face competition with other mailers for first class mail the end would have come even sooner. Times have changed and 2014 is a much different time than 1776.
well they could pass legislation to impose term limits but why would they?? To many perks come with the job and to easy to be a crook and get away with it!
I agree & would have joined my fellow union Brothers & Sisters, but I am in St. Louis, Mo. We need to show support & unit. I feel this country is no longer a democracy, as “we the people” have no in put with the Laws, unless you, we or myself have butt loads of money to contribute enough to sway or buy anybody in politics. What would President Andrew Jackson think of or Leaders today? They make me sick & sad to know my future is in the grim reapers hands.
Good for them, although I would suspect Issa couldn’t care less about what they think. You can’t be the richest lawmaker in Washington D.C. by giving a shit about anybody but you and your dirty deals. Issa has said he wasn’t running for president, which is good, because he wouldn’t stand the chance of a snowman in Hell. He might be loved by his equally rich racist district in San Diego, but the rest of the country with the exception of the predictable Republicans who refuse to accept their own party can do anything wrong will pounce all over Issa’s criminal history. Of course these days that could be looked at as a job qualification. Too bad Congress can’t make Representatives and Senators have term limits, instead of leaving it up to the states.
