Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe to Discuss Challenges Facing Postal Service at National Press Club, 10 a.m., Tues., Jan. 6, Murrow Room
WASHINGTON, Jan. 2, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — On Jan. 5, the United States Postal Service will lower standards for mail delivery across the nation. Mail will take longer to reach its final destination. In contrast, USPS expanded package delivery to seven days a week during the holiday season. Where is USPS headed in an era of growing ecommerce and package delivery, but a drop in the use of mail for bill-paying and personal correspondence?
What about USPS’ finances? The postal service just reported its best quarter financially in seven years. Yet, USPS has been hobbled by a Congressional requirement to pre-pay billions in retiree healthcare costs. Congress also adjourned last year without approving either new members for USPS’ Board of Governors or enacting postal reform legislation that was years in the making.
Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe who has led USPS since 2011, during one of the Service’s most turbulent periods, and is leaving his post on Feb. 1, will offer a frank appraisal on what is working and what needs to be fixed at a Newsmaker news conference 10 a.m., Tues. Jan. 6, in the National Press Club’s Murrow Room. Past National Press Club President Angela Greiling Keane, who previously covered USPS for Bloomberg News, will host the event.
Billion of dollars Pres. Bush put in to place(republicans) for the USPS to pay into a retirement fund the future employees. ( what is the reason for this) New employees have no retirement . Is the payment to get rid of IOU’S
in many of the USPS accounts that the gov’t has borrowed from.
Why does the USPS MANAGEMENT WANT 600.000 PLUS WORKERS OUT OF THE FEDERAL HEALTH PLAN SYSTEM?
WILL THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS BE TAKEN OFF ALSO?
If USPS workers come off of the FEDERAL HEALTH CARE SYSTEM YOU CAN BET YOUR LAST DOLLAR THE USPS WILL BE DISMANTLED…..
USPS MGMT thinks it can save alot of money by offering BETTER LOW COST HEALTH PLANS.
WE HAVE A GOLD HEALTH PLAN THE BEST… DO YOU WANT TO BE PUT ON MEDICARE AND PAY WHAT OUR SENIORS PAY.. and have little or nothing for medical coverage. I THINK NOT
ITS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY,
He will lie and by complimenting the workforce.
Take my advice, media hounds – skip this meeting. Donahoe can’t be trusted any farther than you can throw a piano in a full swimming pool. While he is correct about the absurdity of the pre-funding for retirees requirement, he is dead wrong about reducing standards. Even the dullest person surely understands the reduction of a product’s service and accessibility only spells doom.
All this reduction will do is convince more people to pay online because they won’t be able to depend on the USPS to get their payments to the utility, credit card, or medical office on time. I do not understand this plan other than to fear that it is designed to ruin us. Is there anybody in Congress who has even an ounce of empathy for the survival of the USPS? I’m doubting that, too.
Will their be a recording of this event, or webcast?
Hmmm, I wonder what he’s going to say? Probably something about how the carriers make too much money and have too many benefits, and they steal money constantly from the PO by extending street time, pretty much the same blather he’s been making since he took that position. In the meantime he’s hiring more people in management, who already do nothing, to do even less. Hey, as long as you get that big bonus, right Donahoe? Good riddance, and a bonus for us (who do the work): we won’t have to watch your stupid videos, when you smile and tell us what a great job we’re doing while you’re trying to stab us in the back.
I wonder how many carriers it would take, for how long, to extend street time enough to equal the $56 MILLION the USPS chose to pay by violating the APWU contract ?
For starters………
Of course, there will be no accountability.
Only promotions.
A. The biggest challenge facing the USPS, is it’s corrupt, incompetent, unethical, and unqualified mgmt.
B. By allowing this clown a public forum, the National Press Club has lost any shred of respect and decency.
