Postmasters: President Trump Proposes Postal Privatization

6/21/2018 Today, President Donald Trump proposed to restructure the United States Postal Service, converting it “from a Government agency into a privately-held corporation.” In a document entitled, Delivering Government Solutions for the 21st Century, (click on title to see report) the Executive Office to the President heralded European postal privatization efforts as an example for U.S. postal reform. The report is 132 pages long and the postal proposal is located on pages 68 through 70. The White House asserts: “A private operation would be incentivized to innovate and improve services to Americans in every community.” The document suggests a variety of private models for the Postal Service. It is important to note that these foreign private postal operations have failed to deliver the quality and certainty that Americans expect and deserve.

It appears that the Presidential Task Force on the Postal System continues its deliberations, notwithstanding the White House proposal. Nevertheless, it is deeply troubling that the postal privatization proposal has been released about 50 days prior to the date on which the Task Force is instructed to present its findings to the President, and two Task Force members — the Director of OMB and the Director of OPM — have had a major role in developing the White House document. Therefore, it is essential that UPMA members urge their Representatives and Senators to reject the President’s ill-conceived postal privatization plan, which undermines universal, affordable, high-quality and trusted mail service.

  1. I can see both sides of the argument. Unions are way to interwoven within the framework of the business costly the USPS millions in petty frivelous grievances while only protecting themselves, not representing the will of the worker. Upper management is consumed with numbers, driving a barrage legalistic micromanagement solutions that have one aim, a good NPA number for their bonus. Middle managers are generally the middle men who filter the non-sense from both sides and coordinate the chaos.

The system is broke and Trump is right in that busting it is the only way to break the strangle hold Unions have on an old business model that is failing. It needs to be done. I agree that rights need to be protected, I just don’t believe Unions really have anymore interest than management in protecting them, many times they are the problem.

  2. Mr. Terry the unions shouldn’t protect workers, or the liberals. Unions should protect conservative politicians. Nothing wrong with having workers treated like dirt, cheated out of pay or benefits. The conservative lackeys see that business get away with treating customers and employees badly. In the 1880’s Reverend Philip Moody toured the country telling people that ” The political and economic realities are that workers must work for ten hours a day for $1.50 for men and .75 cents for women. Business can’t afford to pay that vast sum for only a eight hour day. Workers will be able to enjoy the fruits of their labor in heaven.” So a worker can enjoy their wealth earned working after they are dead! Seems fare to me. Those nasty liberals ended the ten hour day. Can’t have anymore of that! The Nazi’s had a sign at a concertation camp that said ” Work will set you free”. Maybe our leader will bring more of that.

  3. You use a racist name to post. Yeah, you’re definitely a deplorable, a stupid one at that. Do your research before you post. Oh wait, I guess that’s not possible because you got you’re degree from Trump University.

  4. Wow you know nothing. Its was Bush in 2006 that sent us into a downward spiral. With the Postal accountability act

  5. It is a good move Mr. President. Let privatize the USPS, let get rid of fat cat Unions, who are not protecting members instead support those liberals politician.

  6. funny to watch the postal entitlement cabal get their knickers in a twist……….how many years in a row can you lose $Billions (they have 11 in a row now) without it going bankrupt? that is the question for the ages. shut it down, lock her up…….very simple solutions are out there. Trump only one who gets it lol.
