President Biden signs executive action for mask mandate in federal buildings and by federal employees

On his first day in office, President-elect Joe Biden is expected to sign 17 executive actions —15 will be executive orders, some of which will reverse decisions made by his predecessor, President Trump.

The executive actions will make changes to the U.S. response to the COVID-19 pandemic and try to ease some of the financial strain placed on Americans resulting from the pandemic. But other executive actions directly target and undo President Trump’s actions on the environment, immigration, the U.S. census, and regulatory changes.

Mr. Biden will sign the executive actions in the Oval Office on Wednesday afternoon, incoming White House press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters on Tuesday night.

COVID-19 response

Start a “100 Days Masking Challenge,” calling for a nationwide face mask and social distancing mandate in federal buildings, on federal lands and by federal employees and contractors.

Restructure federal government coordination to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Biden White House is bringing back an Obama-era position called the “Directorate for Global Health Security and Biodefense,” which was organized with additional staff within the National Security Council after the 2014 Ebola epidemic. This directorate office was dispersed into other roles during the Trump administration, but Biden and his campaign advisers argued the move decreased the preparedness of the federal government for the COVID-19 pandemic. Mr. Biden will also formally implement a “response coordinator” who will report to the president on vaccine, testing and personal protective equipment production, supply, and distribution. Mr. Biden has appointed Jeff Zients, who has been overseeing Mr. Biden’s COVID-19 team for the presidential transition.

Financial relief for Americans

Extend eviction and foreclosure moratoriums. To do this, Biden will call on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to re-implement and extend the already defunct moratorium until at least March 31. The new president will also call on the Departments of Agriculture, Housing and Urban Development, and Veterans Affairs to extend the foreclosure moratoriums for their federally backed mortgages. “These emergency measures are important,” Mr. Biden’s top economic adviser Brian Deese said on the call with reporters, “There are more than 11 million mortgages guaranteed by the VA, Department of Agriculture and HUD that would be extended.”

Continue “pause” on student loan payments until September 30. The Biden advisers continue to assert Biden still supports his campaign pledge to cancel $10,000 of student loans, but this will take time as it has to go through Congress.

Human rights

Strengthen workplace discrimination protections based on sexual orientation and gender identity. At agencies, this broadens the federal protections against sex discrimination to include LGBTQ Americans.

  1. So after six days, why hasn’t the USPS amended policy and notified all post offices?

  2. I was told today at 76520 that the postal clerk would rather be fired than don a mask. Does anybody want a really good government job in Cameron, Texas?

  3. In our little, low ceilinged post office (95945) there were a couple of guys without masks today.
I’d stopped going to the main post office, using one in a grocer’s instead, because the small room and mask-less visitors, plus I’m 80 and really don’t want to get infected. But today I went thinking all would be okay.
Two guys were in this small post office without masks. I said, “Shame on you” to one and he said to f–k myself. He looked like a nice guy but how does that go about judging a book by its cover?
Can the post office post someone at the door requiring masks?
What if they won’t wear one?

  4. No one who works at my town’s post office is wearing a mask nor are many people who come in. What can be done about this? Zip code 73054 Luther OK.

    • You should be glad to see people resisting this unwarranted mask order.
All the co-workers I personally know who tested positive for covid are avid mask wearers. I can’t help but wonder why the media never speaks of how to build up your immune system , which would prevent most cases. We only hear ‘wear mask, stay 6 ft a part, get the vaccine.

      • Cool Ghoul: Your coworkers are wearing masks to protect others, not to protect themselves. The cloth helps to capture the aerosols that we exhale, before they travel through the air and into the eyes and lungs of people around us. Also, a strong immune system helps to overcome the virus, but it does not prevent contracting it, nor does it prevent the virus from shedding and infecting others, who may be unable to improve their immune system.

        • We had about 70% of employees not or refusing to wear masks now it’s more like 80%. We have a high contagion rate and 3 employees have died from covid19 where I work. It’s unconscionable that something as simple as wearing a mask is a major deal for some contending that it infringes on the rights. Most who refuse to wear masks are selfish and entitled republicans. Just goes to show ya how mentally screwed up American society is.

          • We have 99% of employees at our P & DC wearing masks. It’s required. We also have a high contagion rate. It has nothing to do with being a selfish or a republican. lol. You’re right, American society is screwed up, especially with this kind of thinking.
There are plenty of experts in the medical field that question the effectiveness of wearing masks. People really need to start questioning what they’re being force fed by our media and government. It’s all about control. I mean, we know the virus has time constraints. right? That’s why we need curfews!?

        • You’ve been duped. Masks are a fraud. If people are wearing masks, then why do they have to be six feet apart? If they are six feet apart, why do they have to wear a mask. It’s all about control. Look how easily the sheeple have been duped into the mask stupidity. Now the commies in the government know just what they can force the people to do and it’s so easy.

      • “All the co-workers I personally know who tested positive for covid are avid mask wearers.”

Do they all wear masks at home? Going to parties and weddings or insurrections at the Capitol? The problem ISN’T that your co-worker wore masks; it’s that they interact with people who do not wear masks. MASKS PROTECT OTHER PEOPLE, SO LET’S ALL START WEARING MASKS!!!

Ironically, wearing the mask will help with herd immunity because you will inevitably breathe in viruses, albeit not as much as without wearing one or talking to someone who doesn’t wear one. Also, 6 ft. isn’t nearly enough indoors, especially when everyone is constantly talking and walking around.

    • What can be done about it? Don’t go there. It’s still (supposedly) a free country. They are free to not wear a mask, and you are free to not go there.

    • You do have a point that they are already required. The people I know
that are big supporters of our new president are not happy about not
getting the 2000 dollars that was said to be one of the first things done.
