Neighborhood mail problems will be the focus of a forum scheduled for Monday night.
Previously, USPS officials said the brutal winter weather Chicago contributed to mail issues in West Town. Mail was delivered late at night, if at all, and some packages never arrived, neighbors complained.
“I get the wrong mail all the time. I get mail for people who live 12 blocks away,” said Steve Niketopoulos of Ukranian Vilage. “Things show up missing… boxes are broken… We see the issues all the time.”
Niketopoulos said USPS officials told him that staff quitting or becoming injured on the job are part of the problem with mail service in the area.
A community Facebook page about to Monday’s meeting describes it as a forum – West Town Mail Problems Continue — and Residents Demand Answers From USPS
We’ve confirmed our speakers from the USPS will be:
Karen Schenck, District Manager, Chicago
Anthony Vaughan, Postmaster of Chicago
Paula McHenry, Customer Services Operations Manager
Bill Hedrick, U.S. Postal Inspection Service
Andre Martin, Office of the Inspector General
Mark Reynolds, Customer Services Operations
(The Station manager for Wicker Park and other postal representatives will also be in attendance)
Topics: Lost mail, Stolen mail, Package theft, New and easy ways of reporting, Delivery issues, Communicating with the local office, Knowing your carrier, Falsely marked delivered and Best types of mailboxes.
This is it, a chance to really understand Chicago’s operations. Bring questions, this is a real opportunity to get direct answers from the most qualified USPS employees. Please take advantage of this opportunity and stop by. After all… we should hit the 50’s for Mondays temperature (so no one can blame the snow for missing it).
This all happens at A.N.Pritzger School (the corner of Damen and Schiller) starting at 7pm sharp on Monday night March 31st.
