Retired postal police officer charged with pulling gun on driver in road rage incident

rrA 57-year-old retired postal cop, in the throes of road rage, chased and aimed his gun at a motorist along Route 440 for not letting him pass on a left turn, according to Bayonne police. Oscar Elijah, of Bayonne, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, Bayonne Police Capt. Walter Rogers said.

The 50-year-old victim, who was in the car with his 17-year-old son, told police he was about to make a left turn off Pulaski Street onto Route 440 southbound at about noon on Sunday when another car, a blue Chevy Impala, inched closer in an attempt to cut him off on the turn.

“Elijah tried to turn into the other man’s vehicle in an attempt to move him over,” Rogers said. “The vehicles were parallel to each other and Elijah began to scream obscenities and flipped him the bird.”

For nearly 18 blocks on Route 440, Elijah drove alongside the other until both vehicles stopped at 30th street, Rogers said
