Members of the APWU Saint Louis Gateway Area Local visited with staff for U.S. senators Claire McCaskill (D-MO) and Roy Blunt (R-MO) to urge the lawmakers to support the Postal Service Protection Act (S. 316) — and to oppose a postal reform bill (S. 1486) introduced by senators Tom Carper (D-DE) and Tom Coburn (R-OK).

The visits were part of the union’s effort to call attention to the Postal Service’s manufactured financial crisis while lawmakers were in their districts during the late summer congressional recess.

“Thanks to all who participated in the union’s congressional outreach program this summer,” said APWU Legislative and Political Director Gary Kloepfer. “We helped get our message across: Congress must act now to preserve the Postal Service and the jobs and vital services it provides across the nation.
