(October 23, 2014) The Berkeley City Council has received a letter from City Attorney Zach Cowan saying that he believes that the Berkeley Post Office might already been sold or at least the United States Postal Service (USPS) is in contract with a potential buyer. Pursuant to previous authorization from the Council, the city of Berkeley has authorized attorney Antonio Rossmann to file a lawsuit, hoping to prevent the sale.
We were recently informed of a rumor that the USPS was under contract to sell the Berkeley Main Post Office, or that it was perhaps already in escrow.
When I inquired about this with the USPS, its response was that the USPS would not respond to questions on this issue.
Further, the USPS stated (for the first time) that it has reached an impasse with the City and the National Trust as to the terms of a preservation covenant. Not long before this communication, we had been promised a revised preservation covenant for our consideration, and had been assured that negotiations were continuing.
The name of the purchaser is still secret, although there have been rumors that it is a Berkeley developer. Berkeley has not been informed by the USPS who the purchaser may be, according to Christine Daniel, city manager.
The post office confirmed to the Contra Costa Times Friday that the building is “under contract but not yet sold.
it is a known fact in Cali that Sen Diane Feinstein’s husband Michael Blum has a contract to buy/sell/lease postal property and gets fat commissions……..why do you think that b**ch only works for 197K in the Senate. Blum’s company also supplied all the prefab buildings in the green zone in Iraq for 2 billion. call her office and complain…..see how far it gets you. that other dope is also from Cali-Pelosi. you reap what you sow.
Yep,Dianne Feinstein/Dick Blum will pocket several hundred million as their take off the sale of publicly owned postal properties,much of it at below value to their cronies. And she still takes her Senate salary even though with her wealth it’s only pocket change.
The city needs to understand that the USPS is never moving back into the building; they will either sell it so the city can start getting tax monies from it, or you can screw up the sale and the USPS will let it sit there and rot and you get no tax monies from it; the USPS these days does not care;
Welcome to the world of postal mgmt, where the mantra is “deceive, deny, and deflect”.
*Never* believe *anything* anyone in postal mgmt. tells you, regardless of their level.
The PO has a lot of unused and un needed real estate. Much in prime locations. Sell it and get it on the city tax rolls.
We don’t need to say anything about it until it is in the hands of the buyer and we got our kickbacks.
This is just wrong.
