Today, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Ranking Member Patty Murray (D-WA), Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Ranking Member Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Senate Committee on Aging Ranking Member Bob Casey (D-PA), Senate Committee on Indian Affairs Vice Chairman Tom Udall (D-NM), and Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Ranking Member Gary Peters (D-MI) put forward a proposal to provide additional pay premiums to ‘essential’ frontline workers, which includes letter carriers and other postal employees.
The proposal is meant for consideration by Members of Congress, key stakeholders, and the American people and amounts to an additional $13/hour on top of workers’ current salary or hourly rate – capped at $25,000. This would apply to all ‘essential’ workers, including letter carriers and other postal employees. There is also a proposal calling for a $15,000 recruitment incentive for health and home care workers needed to fight this public health crisis.
“Thousands of workers report to the frontlines of our nation’s pandemic response each and every day, placing themselves squarely in harm’s way to serve the needs of others,” said Leader Schumer. “Senate Democrats’ proposed ‘Heroes Fund’ would provide premium pay to these essential workers—the doctors and nurses, grocery store workers, transit workers, and more who are central to fighting this crisis—and would establish an incentive system to retain and recruit the workforce needed for the long months to come. Essential frontline workers sacrifice daily for our collective health and well-being, and Senate Democrats are fully committed to supplying these heroes the financial support they deserve.”
“So many people are working hard and performing essential duties to help our communities confront this pandemic, and they deserve to be compensated for their dedication,” said Senator Peters. “Whether it’s health care providers and food supply workers in the private sector, or postal workers and security professionals in the public sector, we owe our frontline workers our thanks and our support. This proposal not only addresses the financial needs of these essential workers, it also presses for additional protective gear and other measures that will help ensure they can continue to perform their critical roles while protecting their health and safety.”
NALC is thankful for this proposal and supportive of it. NALC has been advocating to include hazard pay for letter carriers and will continue to work with Congressional leadership on upcoming stimulus measures to include this proposal.
The union and management are meeting to determine the exact dates when the new pay rates will be reflected in the paychecks and the date when workers will receive the backpay retroactive checks. What are they discussing ? Our new contract is already half way over…If you are getting a raise or cola increase thank an ARBITRATOR union reps NEVER SEEM TO BE ABLE TO NEGOTIATE ANYTHING

TRUMP WILL NEVER SIGN IT IF IT INCLUDES POSTAL EMPLOYEES, HE HATES THE PO AND WILL DO ANYTHING TO SINK IT.
The system is broke, the leaders are clueless and now this burden is passed on to our children and grandchildren for the cost of there incompetentance. What scares me more than this is the cost that will be faced once the economy is started back up and we are left dealing with the fall out of all the “small ” businesses that have shuttered that had barrowed against their employees retirement accounts which is “fully legal” to keep operations going.
TRUMP WON’T SIGN IT IF IT INCLUDES POSTAL WORKERS. HE HATES THE P.O. AND WILL DO ANYTHING TO SINK IT!
It’s great for those who actually work. But what about the 25% of the slugs who should be fired? Carry 8 hour route in 10 or sort mail slower than a 90 year old. Custodians that actually only work an hour or two a day. Clean up the bad and reward the good.
Frontline postal workers are Window Clerks. Not letter carriers. Not custodians. Not managers. With the exception of Window personnel all others work in the BACK…NOT the FRONT. That’s FRONT as in FRONTLINE!!
Your smoking crack gordan Ramsey you have a plastic bug shield to protect you from the invisible enemy your ass should be on the back of the line your the reason no one uses the p.o slower than a dunking donuts drive up carriers are far more superior and will always be frontline workers pussy who couldn’t hack carrying a mailbag over 10 hrs a day weighing over 35 lbs in all weather ! The only thing you carry over 35 lbs is your fucking lunch a hole!
Usual Democrat crap, wanting to do their best to turn us into a total welfare state.
This isn’t a pandemic, it’s a plandemic.
Never let a good crisis go to waste.
I don’t need hazard pay. Just fix this place so we can
do our job without ten toolbag supervisors micro managing me
and making twice what I make.
oh, and FIRE Brennan before she retires.
What a piece of crap she is.
And where is this money going to come from? Postal rates/tax increases? Just Democrats trying to buy votes and will screw us later after they are re-elected.
Where is the $1.200 for everyone coming from? The two trillion dollar stimulus money is coming out of thin air. Both parties just print more money and pile on the debt.
And once again. Where do you think this money is coming from. Tax payers, not the government.
Postal custodians- the ones who constantly clean dangerous & infected areas in and around customers who ulitize our services must be included in any type of hazard or heroes pay!
I can not wait to get this money. We deserve it
