A Senate committee has postponed consideration of a controversial postal bill that was condemned by postal unions and others. Members of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs were scheduled to meet on Dec. 18 to act on S. 1486, which was introduced by Sen. Tom Carper (D-DE) and Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) in August.
“We’re pleased that Sen. Carper has postponed a committee vote on the bill,” said APWU President Mark Dimondstein. “But our fight is not over.”
“We need legislation that will end the manufactured financial crisis and protect the USPS as a public postal service. The four postal unions are committed to working together to accomplish those goals,” he said.
The presidents and legislative officers of the four postal unions met with Sen. Carper and his staff on Dec. 17 to share their views about the future of the Postal Service. “We had a frank and productive discussion,” Dimondstein said.
Just love the way the Democrats do business behind closed doors with the Unions, then they decide to postpone action onthe bill……They were ready to move forward after the public hearings, guess he was holding out for more money in which the Unions apparently agreed to fork over…
Until these senators concede to the elimination of the ludicrous 5.5 billion dollar payment the postal service is mandated to pay each year that progressed the slide more then any other they will just keep going round and round. It’s amazing they get paid to be “sound” (key word) decision makers and are mediocre at best! They deliberately dodge this obvious must step with other senseless
means of revenue at the expense of postal workers. This and the rate increase coming soon becomes an after thought had these senators rid this ball and chain that the Bush administration strapped to the postal service. This and allowing the service to compete for business on an equal playing field with it’s competition would go a long way to future financial freedom for the postal service.
yes an early out would do it for me also…
give me $25,000 vera and they won’t have to worry about a stinking reform bill
Carper never has, puppet of the Unions…true socialist if there ever was one….I’m sure his palm will be greased.
Politics accomplishes nothing. Carper is a true politician.
