3/8/16 Senator Claire McCaskill has sent a letter to Postmaster General Megan Brennan requesting documents related to the Phase II Network Rationalization Plan. The letter in part:
I write to request information on the costs incurred and savings realized from Phase II of the United States Postal Service’s (USPS) Network Rationalization Plan. In response to a question from Postal Regulatory Commission Chairman Robert G. Taub, the USPS acknowledged it has not realized all of the savings it projected from the second phase of its consolidation efforts. For example, USPS expected to spend an additional $124.9 million annually in transportation costs as a result of the Phase II Network Rationalization Plan, but the actual increase in transportation costs during the first nine months of2015 was $130.2 million.
In total, the completed consolidation efforts associated with Phase II have actually resulted in a net spending increase of about $66 million in FY 2015.3 While some of that increase may be attributable to delays in facility closings that had been scheduled for FY 2015, I am concerned that further implementation of the Network Rationalization plan could result in additional unforeseen costs.
As you are well aware, the USPS financial situation is dire. The USPS has no financial flexibility to continue making decisions that both degrade its service and increase costs.

Must be election year for McCaskill, won’t matter Postal Service is going to do what they want.
Most likely a courtesy letter will be received by Senator McCaskill, whitewashing and embellishing issues with few words. Then a short statement about how they are working to achieve comparable agreements for all. will keep her informed if needed, and thanks for her work and concern about the american people.
There will be no answer to the letter sent. A form letter with information that has nothing to do with consolidation and blaming Congress will be all she gets back. There are many elected officials who have these consolidation centers in their districts and they are claiming victory with their local voters about saving jobs. This is at the cost of poor and late delivery standards for the other closed districts. Trucking companies are raking in the money while people are waiting loner delivery times.
