Senator Mikulski Calls on Postmaster General to Immediately Restore Maryland Mail Service

SenatorMikulskiMaryland constituents report having received no mail service in past 10 days, affecting prescription medication delivery, social security checks, veterans benefits and time-sensitive correspondence

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.) today announced that she has called on U.S. Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe to immediately resume without delay mail service for Marylanders across the state who have been subjected to lengthy delivery delays.

“I have been contacted by numerous constituents from Pasadena, Windsor Mill and Perry Hall who report they have not received mail since February 11, 2014. It is also reported that mail carriers in the Baltimore area are forbidden to sort and file certain classes of mail. This is a very serious issue. I am requesting that mail service resume immediately without delay,” Senator Mikulski wrote.

Marylanders who have contacted the Senator’s office report that they have been without mail pickup or delivery, some since February 11th. This impacts everything from prescription medication delivery, social security checks, veterans benefits and time-sensitive correspondence.

Senator Mikulski’s letter to Postmaster General Donahoe follows:

February 20, 2014

The Honorable Patrick R. Donahoe
Postmaster General & CEO
United States Postal Service
475 L’Enfant Plaza Southwest
Washington, DC 20260-0004

Dear Mr. Donahoe:

I have been contacted by numerous constituents from Pasadena, Windsor Mill and Perry Hall who report they have not received mail since February 11, 2014. It is also reported that mail carriers in the Baltimore area are forbidden to sort and file certain classes of mail.

In addition, constituents report that when they go to their post office in order to pick up their mail, they are turned away. They are told by postal employees that their mail is not available because it is not sorted.

This is a very serious issue. Constituents report that they are waiting for prescription medications which are a week overdue.

I am requesting that mail service resume immediately without delay.

Sincerely,

Barbara A. Mikulski
United States Senator
