WASHINGTON, June 7, 2018 – Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) outlined his plan to strengthen the United States Postal Service in a letter Thursday to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, the chairman of the president’s task force on the Postal Service.
“Unfortunately, for decades, the Postal Service has been under attack by those who want to profit off of the Postal Service’s failure. Their solution is to slash hundreds of thousands of jobs, close thousands of post offices, eliminate hundreds of mail processing plants, end Saturday mail and substantially slow down mail delivery,” Sanders wrote. “It is time to save and strengthen the Postal Service, not dismantle it.”
In April, President Donald Trump ordered a federal task force to investigate the finances of the Postal Service, which the order claimed is on an “unsustainable financial path and must be restructured to prevent a taxpayer-funded bailout.”
“The Trump Administration is right to take a serious look at the U.S. Postal Service. But it would be a disaster if the President or members of his Administration believe that the ultimate solution is to privatize the Postal Service, the most popular government agency in America,” Sanders wrote in the letter.
Sanders includes several recommendations to help the Postal Service succeed and thrive into the 21st century, without moving toward privatization and endangering the jobs of the 640,000 Americans employed by the Postal Service.
Sanders’ recommendations include ending the prefunding mandate, part of a George W. Bush-era law that requires the Postal Service to pre-fund 75 years of retiree benefits to employees who haven’t been born yet. No other private business or government agency is burdened with such a requirement, which costs the Postal Service about $5.5 billion every year.
He also recommends allowing the Postal Service to provide basic financial services and other new consumer products and services – currently, it is against the law for workers in the post offices to make copies of documents, deliver wine or beer and wrap Christmas presents. Sanders would allow the Postal Service to recover $50 billion in overpayments it made to its retirement program, end the artificial price cap on stamps which is costing the system $2 bill a year and reinstate overnight delivery and speed up service standards.
“There is no question that the Postal Service needs to become more entrepreneurial to meet the changing needs of the digital revolution, but the answer is not to make mail delivery slower,” Sanders wrote in the letter. “The answer is not to radically downsize or privatize the Postal Service. The answer is not to eliminate good-paying jobs. The answer is not to devastate rural communities by closing their post offices, closing mail processing facilities or ending six-day mail delivery.”

USPS needs to get rid of the useless managers that are there just to collect a pay check and properly compensate the management and admin staff that actually care and work hard. Same for the dead weight employees who do nothing, leaving all the work to their colleagues. Out of ten, half are on their phones and the other five are working twice as hard. Unless USPS management,is able or even willing tocombat their problem of”fishing”envelopes of First-Class letters,containing checks;and personal acct.-information,there is NO hope,in saving our nation’s postal-service. There us numerous other carriers delivering parcels. For example,FedEx,UPS,DHL;or even Amazon themselves-delivering parcels. Without letters, and to a lesser extent,magazines and newspapers;there is really NO need for USPS-at all. If USPS won’t control mail-box theft,than the US Congress, should? Lots of luck,with Retard-Washington,DC,doing so.

Sanders is a commie who knows nothing about how to run a business (like po mismgt) Sanders got his first real job when he was 40 years old. so in a nutshell, first class mail is dropping like a rock and will be gone in 5 years, we do not make any money on junk mail, express mail we started with 100% and are down to 3% and dropping. reg mail is a money loser-no volume. the only bright bulb is package delivery, UPS, FDX, AMZN, Wal-Mart are head and shoulders above po-face the fact your job is going down the crapper.(you didn’t work hard enough for us bureaucrats) I suggest that you do what Pan American Airways did 2 years before they went under-union employees take a 20% haircut in pay to save the company. (will it help, of course not but it will give me my bonus another couple of years) Bernie Sanders would approve of that 20% cut, Democrats did when Pan Am did it, so for diversity’s sake everybody take a 20% cut in pay and take one for the winning team. it will make you ffffeeeeeeeel so good.(and give IOD muffin meagan and me a chance to get out of town while the getting is good) in the meantime face the case and throw mail and think because it was it will always be. and that’s the rest of the story.

Hillary won’t run again, she is tired. We also need new faces to step in and change the way we think about two party politics. Sanders had a better chance of winning than Clinton, but the elitists in that party screwed all of this into having a president who actually thinks he has the right to pardon himself. Well par doe nay me, but in reality, the Sanders revolution has also given rise to the idea of a third party representing the working class. This is the common thread that can be used to unite voters of all stripes who call themself liberal or conservative or right wing on some things and left wing on others. WE ALL FLY ON WORKING WINGS. The difference in mind sets between Republicans and Democrats or Independent in the case of Sanders is so astonishingly graphic that one would have to have the brains of a stewed tomato to fail to understand how mean, hateful and anti-working class, not to mention incredibly corrupt the GOP is when it comes to dealing with people.
They HATE everybody who isn’t ultra rich and powerful. They pander well – it’s what seasoned politicians do. But deep down they hate the very people who have to vote for them to keep their seats in Washington. They cultivate idiocy, racism, do all they can to sabotage education, and suck up to the Christian right for guaranteed votes just by claiming to be pro-life. How anybody can seriously believe these tyrants give a damn about kids is maddening.
Sanders is friends of the working class. He may be talking the talk, but I tend to think he’s sincere. Elizabeth Warren is also a hard worker for labor and the chance for all citizens to get quality educations and higher paying jobs with solid union presence as it used to be.
As dismal as the Trump regime or dictator-wanna-be reign is, this megalomaniacal psychopath and his cronies can be defeated. But Democrats have to keep Hillary Clinton out of the picture and get behind Sanders or Warren. Clinton is an ego maniac as well, and just a slightly more moderate Republican running around in sheeps’ clothing. I fear she will try her damnedest to regain the Democratic nomination for president just to satisfy her ego and desire to restore her image after having been beat by the worst. It was she who made people stay home with her inability to connect, phony liberal stance and an indelible history of being just another Wall Street suck up.
We can’t let her get in if we want a real move back to progressive government. She would only discourage people from showing up again, and Trump would get re-elected if he wasn’t convicted at impeachment and removed. Whether Clinton could beat the Christian cult sharia law supporter Mike Pence would remain to be seen.
Trump is the working family’s enemy. He and his equally sinister GOP leaders will wipe out the middle and lower classes if given the chance. Not one person who is registered as a Democrat, independent, or even a Republican who knows their party has been severely compromised by Trump can afford to ignore the midterms or the 2020 elections. And if you aren’t registered, get out there! Yes, we have a lot of questions about voter fraud, and it does exist, but overwhelming numbers usually cancel out stolen votes.
I agree with nearly everything here. But I do think it is overstating things to say that the GOP hates the working class. The GOP doesn’t hate us, they just view as less than human. We are merely a utility. We are the rubes. We are the dummies who can be tricked against voting against our own financial interests by a guy who doesn’t even know what it’s like to go to the grocery store for himself.
