Washington, DC – June 25, 2014 – Today, Congressman José E. Serrano succeeded in restoring language to an annual appropriations bill requiring the United States Postal Service to maintain six day delivery. The bipartisan amendment, which Congressman Serrano sponsored with Congressman Tom Latham (R-IA), passed and was added to the fiscal year 2015 Financial Services and General Government appropriations bill.
“This is an important victory for the millions of Americans who depend upon six day delivery to receive vital services in a timely manner,” said Congressman José E. Serrano. “The six day delivery requirement has been in appropriations legislation since 1983, and removing it now would have allowed the USPS to make life more difficult for these many small businesses and individuals.
“Eliminating Saturday mail delivery would be penny wise and pound foolish. There is no indication that getting rid of 6 day delivery will somehow allow the Postal Service to return to sustainability. In fact, previous estimates indicate that getting rid of six day delivery would actually result in a loss of revenue that outweighs projected savings.
“Thank is why Congressman Latham and I introduced this amendment. I thank my colleagues on both sides of the aisle for supporting it.”
The amendment passed by voice vote. The bill now moves to the full House of Representatives for their consideration
i am not old enough, plus i like my job, great route, great co workers,my office is pretty good, but reading the postal record and coming on this site i can see alot of offices have major problems, carriers out past 8 or 9,like i said i like my ot,but by 6pm i am out the door, and maillady i understand about having saturdays off alot of people are for it,in my office alone 75% of the carriers want it,in fact with 20 routes and 22 carriers we are 2 people short everyday, and we have 2 more guys retiring by the end of august and september,
So porkchop …..RETIRE!!!!!!’!
MAILLADY,I DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN WHEN YOU SAY WHAT TO YOU HAVE TO SHOW FOR IT,I DON’T HAVE A MORTGAGE,AND I HAVE $250 thousand in my thrift,is that what you mean.
Wow porkchop…..you’re really living the high life….don’t see where you have anything to show for it….BTW there are 37 routes in my office.
HEY,MAILLADY,WE JUST GOT OUR ROUTES ADJUSTED 410 DELIVERIES NOW,THE MOST MOUNTED DELIVERIES IN OUR OFFICE,40 MILES A DAY IN MY LLV,MAYBE I MILK IT MAYBE I DON’T,WHO CARES,AS FAR AS A LIFE,I HAVE MY SHARE OF FUN,I AM OUT 4-5 NIGHTS A WEEK WITH MY FRIENDS,HARDLY EVER GET HOME BEFORE 3 AM ON SUNDAYS,PLUS I HAVE MANY VICES,WHISKEY,CIGARS AND MY MOST FUN GAMBLING,I COULD GET BY WITH NO OT,BUT WHAT IS EASIER THAN AN ALL MOUNTED ROUTE,WHY GIVE IT UP,PLUS IN OUR OFFICE OUR SICK LEAVE RECORD SUCKS 1-2 BANGS A DAY,IN THE WINTER I’AM NOT EVEN ON THE OT LIST,BUT THEY CALL AT 7AM TO ASK YOU TO COME IN,OH YEAH THEIR ARE 20 ROUTES IN MY OFFICE.
MAILLADY, the american public was asked this in a questionnaire, ” which do you prefer, higher fees or no saturday delivery”. i ask this question of you, ” why is it, carriers like you hope the postal service fails’?
your pension and future health benefits depend on the postal service improving and succeeding.
Hey porkchop….really and what do you have to show for all this OT? Seriously you depend on it? Obviously you don’t have a life….I have a mounted route with almost 900 possible deliveries and we pivot in our office….OT is nearly nothing so my guess is you are milking it!
But Obama wants 5 day delivery and might just do it with an executive order.
hey maillady,i didn’t say it makes sense, and your right,my people leave the mail in the box til monday all the time but my ot would go down a ton,on an avg i work about 18 days off a year, that’s about $7,500 a year,to hard to give up now, gotten accustomed to it after 27 years, plus i have 400 delivery all mounted route,so when i do work 6 days it’s a cake walk,i’am selfish = YES
Donuthole and his cronies keep throwing spaghetti on the wall.. Just hoping and praying something sticks… Thank God Issa is losing his Chairman’s position on the Oversight committee and just heard Sen. Cobourn is retiring.. We gotta keep control of the Senate and maybe reclaim the House… Get out and VOTE in November everyone!!!!!
Nice Mustache EL Serrano
Donohoe and Issa can eat a big load of . Of course this hasn’t been brought to a full vote, nor has it made it to the Senate, but it does slow those privatization vultures down a bit. Plus, the dig at the idiocy and likely revenue loss of a five day week is a good slap in the face of Donohoe, who is too corrupt to understand what works and doesn’t when all he focuses on is his golden parachute. Maybe after this failure, his owners in Congress will tire of his fat ass and move for his removal although I’m not betting on it.
Carriers who want five day delivery for their own selfish reasons, usually football on Saturday afternoons, will just have to burn annual leave and find other ways to screw fellow employees.
Hey porkchop, you make absolutely no sense at all just like 6 day delivery! The American people have been asked and they could care less if they get mail on Saturdays. Come take a look in some of my mailboxes and you will see who cares about delivery at all. The American people are tired of all the junk mail that they receive and I for one am tired of all their comments about it. Go to 5 day letter and 6 day package. Makes sense to me!
want a thank everybody who supported the 6 day delivery, thank you congressman serrano, Eliminating 6 day delivery will include cca’s been separated from employment thank yoou hurrahh.
yeah baby,6 day all the way, like i say all the time no saturday,no chance to work my day off.
