November 18, 2015 – The payroll stubs were stamped Oct. 26, shipped as U.S. Postal Service Priority Mail. But the envelope, sent from a sister store in Seattle, didn’t reach Jackson until Nov. 11, said Amy Cooper, manager of Jackson Hole Pendleton.
Luckily, employees are paid by direct deposit. Still, “how can it take that long from Portland?” she asked.
The delay was not the first of its kind for Cooper, who said she has seen sluggish mail delivery since April, when the Postal Service rerouted its sorting through Salt Lake City. Previously mail was sorted at a facility in Rock Springs
“You knew exactly when it happened,” she said. “It used to take three days to get anything from our factory. Now it’s five plus.”
The change was not supposed to be a noticeable one, according to Postal Service representatives, and for some it hasn’t been. Several customers picking up mail at the Maple Way office Tuesday said delivery hasn’t seemed any slower than usual, acknowledging that mail to Jackson is typically slower than mail to a metropolitan city.
But some say packages are taking much longer to receive, a problem that may stem from shortages in staff.

Unfortunately, this happening Nationwide. We as employees need to take pride as employees and in our jobs. We need not help Management run the United Postal Service into the ground. Being said, if that means writing letters to our Districts, Senators and having informational pickets. We as employees need to become more active in our Unions and taking back “What Is Ours.” Ask yourself, What is it that I can do to help save my job?
This is happening nation wide. Let me explain why.
1. Congress passes bill forcing the USPS to pay 5.6 billion every year, for ten years, for retirement Obligations not needed for 75 years in the future . Not needed until the year 2081. No other business in the world ever has had this mandate. Ever
2. Post office must close processing plants and rural post offices…….must not hire any permanent employees when older workers retire…….hire new cheap labor, no benefits, and work them 7days a week, 8 to 12 hour days expecting them to with stand the physical and mental stress.
3. Close several processing plants and expect one plant to do the work of three.
4. Not hiring carriers whe older carriers retire, instead, they Overburden existing carriers, readjusting their routes to be ten hours long instead of eight.
All his and more in an effort to pay this 5.6 billion yearly…..that’s yearly 5.6 BILLION dollar bill passed by congress in a lame Duck meeting, (members of congress that were voted out …last meeting before the new congressmen were to take over).
You can thank congress for the Postal Service mail delays. How much do you want to bet they will temporarily fix the problem before the next election so their political adds will get to your home on time.
At least people in Jackson,WY and Duluth,MN r speaking up seriously mails. (See above Duluth story and especially the VIDEO). This unlike delayed mails in Queens,NY,in which there has been almost total silence and excuses 4 such;as the Queens,P.D&C completed a major downsizing. It was fully implimented,as of Aug.1,2015.
At a time when we need to provide the best service possible, usps mgmt., as usual, chooses to provide the worst service possible.
In their eyes, customers are a nuisance, at best.
