WASHINGTON — House and Senate negotiators reached accord on a trillion-dollar spending plan that will finance the government through September, reversing some cuts to military veterans’ pensions that were included in a broader budget agreement last month and defeating efforts to rein in President Obama’s health care law.
The hefty bill, filed in the House on Monday night, neutralized almost all of the 134 policy provisions that House Republicans had hoped to include, with negotiators opting for cooperation over confrontation after the 16-day government shutdown in October.

Disastrous plan of wasting money on PAST NEED in history but is not connected to the 21st century. Due to changing demographics the need for many small post offices no longer exist. Many are within 6-8 mile radius of each other. Technological advances in communication has created instant messaging resulting in massive decline in revenue as is reflected in billion $$ losses. Cost effective operations should be employed and wasted unnecessary cost eliminated. Individuals and businesses no longer communicate via purchasing postage for delivery to a physical address as advances in communication technology has created instant messaging. Social security and other government agencies no longer physically mail check to a physical address but are deposited via direct deposit.
USPS needs to be downsized as demand for postal services by the general public has rapidly decreased. Once the baby boomers no longer exist the generations forward are in the space age with multiple apps that even create candy electronically. Hershey Co. is now working on this. Communications delivered by a truck will be history.
Parcel delivery is a bright spot as online shopping will continue to increase and mail trucks can be used same as the brown trucks to deliver parcels.
$70 mil is peanuts. Close them down..
Can’t wait for 5 day…All you pathetic union lovers, keep giving your dues for nothing…Keep wasting your money because it is going to happen…What has the union done to help the post office, thats right have more workers so they have more people paying dues…way to go…The Union is the problem with the Post Office…Stop blaming others, the pathetic union loving slugs that work here…Not all workers but the pathetic ones and you all know who I am talking about because we all have them in our offices…That you Rolando for inflating the work force so you can get their dues…Thank You
Darrell… You need to check your grammar and punctuation… And San Diego county does border Mexico.. Check a map or atlas idiot!!!
To going postal says: Easy Sucka and here’s the reason: The Post Office projects 43,000 less postal workers in Fiscal year 2014, and than projects @15,000 less postal workers in 2015. How are they going to get 43,000 out in 2014 without an early out incentive. I know, projections are just that but between now and 2017, they are going to have a massive exit “to shed an additional 100,000 jobs by 2017”. Yes, projected in 2014, but it could happen up to 2017. That’s all Suckas.
To Sucka: I plan to retire 5/2014: why would you think this action by our depraved Congress would result in early outs in October?
They’ve lit a fire under management’s butt. For first time in 25 years, I seen them fire an (incompetent) Maintenance Manager at a major plant. Maybe we could be more like a real business, (with subsidies to maintain universal service, like other utilities get for unprofitable customers.) This is past due.
tony b is wrong or just plain ingorant,
1. issa’s districk is not on the border it is in north san diego county.
2. issa sponsored hr 3801 to repeal cuts to military benefits made by the bi-partisian budget deal.
the only thing he got right is that issa does want to privitize/sell of the postal service.
“Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe has said he plans to shed an additional 100,000 jobs by 2017”. Early outs Suckas: October of 2014.
You know what this means Suckas: Early outs in October of 2014.
What really makes me sick is that he is willing to cut veterans pay increases but no take a pay cut himself and the rest of Congress.. Issa will do anything to privatize the Post Office. How many bills is he gonna put out each year. Issa… Your bills never get out of committee, give it up!!! How bout protecting the San Diego border ( your congressional district ).. How many billions of dollars are we losing every year with all the ill- legal aliens crossing.. Another thing Issa.. What did you do about the underground drug tunnel that ran from downtown San Diego to Mexico??? You can’t even take care of your own congressional district!!! How in the HELL do you know what’s best for the U.S. Postal Service???? Since you’re worth 484 million dollars. You should work for free!!! Your a civil servant asshole!!!! Fuck you and the rest of the Republicans!! And the idiot Chris Christie of New Jersey!!!!
Well, it isn’t permanent, but in the meantime Darryl Issa can go suck an egg. It’s nice to know that not everybody in Washington is supporting his hell bent desire to cripple the USPS when it was Congress who put them so far in debt in the first place (Donohoe’s legendary mishandling and piss poor management skills running a close second place). You see, Issa, there are people who think of others besides their own rich selves and how much money they can make by doing horrible things like firing thousands of people and breaking the government’s oath to service personnel by slashing their benefits they were guaranteed when they signed up.
I’m not a vet, but I can’t imagine how betrayed they feel after what they’ve gone through. Fight for your country, see your buddies get severely injured or killed, maybe get horribly wounded yourself defending your nation just to come home and find out a former car thief wants to cut your throat a little more.
Why any active serviceman or woman or veteran would vote GOP is a mystery. It’s the Democrats who stopped that atrocious act in its tracks, so it would do servicepeople well to remember who and who didn’t try to screw them after their time in the military.
