State of the Business: PMG reports on new initiatives

E-commerce and technology are shaping the way packages are delivered, and creating an increased demand for better tracking and customer service.

“Packages are the future. Scanning is the future. Visibility is the future,” PMG Pat Donahoe said in his latest video message to employees. “It’s critical that we do all of these things right.”

With more customers taking advantage of e-commerce, Donahoe says it is critical to scan and deliver each package accurately and on time. Customers today expect more real-time updates and faster delivery. One way the Postal Service is addressing these growing needs, the PMG explains, is by rolling out new hand-held Mobile Delivery Devices to improve tracking and communication.

Donahoe also talks about a 60-day early-morning delivery test in San Francisco. He says it is an innovative approach to delivery that uses the Postal Service’s technology, network and vehicles to generate additional revenue. He also gives an update on the Staples conversion to the Approved Shipper Program, and previews national Postal Customer Council Week coming up in September.

The PMG reminds employees to avoid unsafe situations and conditions while on the job. Three new safety videos highlight tips to prevent rollaway/runaway vehicles, dog bites and heat stress.

Finally, Donahoe thanks employees for their hard work. “Keep doing a great job delivering those packages. Keep doing a great job of customer service and do it safely.”

  1. Then someone needs to re-train Amazon employees to quit putting the barcode over the seam of the package, which in turn creates a “chasm” that the scanner cannot read. And if you think a carrier, who is already overburdened, is going to take the time to punch in 26 (or however many numbers there are) you are kidding yourself.

    Just thinking out loud here…

  2. We already have people from staff delivering mail in the AM to meet their goals because of lack of staffing. You will find out the new people with less pay won’t be staying long with less benefits,as you can see with the mail going in the trash.

  3. You are not in touch with with the people you work with. It’s time to make a change and get more income and stop closing plants. Slowing the delivery of mail by closing on Sat.,have less window clerks, and slower delivery does not make sense.

  4. Do we have to scan the license plates too? It will be working overtime every day to do that.

  5. Dear Mr. PMG, do you know how many packages are scanned attempted every day at 6 PM because your stupidvisors were not able to have them delivered during the day? If you don’t know it but you read this comment, you can get in touch with me and I’ll tell you the all story.

P.S. My e-mail is on file with this web site and I authorize the person in charge of the web site to give it to you.

  6. And those videos of CCA’s tossing letters into dumpsters or parcels at the customers driveway aren’t are bringing the image with the public, but then Donablow and his team will give themselves big bonus’s now and when they retire,so they don’t care about declining service quality.

  7. If they believe beating up the carrier force to do all they want and not giving them the time to accomplish it, then they are as dumb as they sound. The CCA workforce has caught on and are starting to leave. More of them quit every week. In the next five years the turn over in the carrier craft will be immense. And the new hires will not stay and take it for a 20-30 year stretch. Especially when the first 8-10 years are without benefits. P

  8. Do the CCA’s have to scan packages too, or just the regulars? Just curious…

  9. Well, we just couldn’t go without another video starring our fearless demigod Pat Donahoe. Never have I seen in three decades a more vain publicity hound than our current PMG, and that just adds to the confounding package when one remembers this is the guy being paid under the table by pals like Darryl Issa to try to destroy the USPS and make its accessibility harder and harder to achieve for customers. I do not understand how this man has escaped the notice of the president or anybody with enough balls and the legal authority to toss him out on his ass.
He can force employees watch his slick professional quality videos with modern graphics and background music, starring the fabulous ME, Postmaster General Donahoe. But he can’t make us listen to him, believe a word he says or admire him. You’re a kamikaze PMG and an egomaniac, Mr. Donahoe.

  10. Keep doing a great job of tearing down the Postal Service and running customers away for me,Donawhore!

  11. I only hope that you are followed all day long with GPS., your royal majesty king Donahoe. It will be able to spot you when you deviate from your hard work day, or run behind your schedule! what ever is good for the slaves, should apply to you also.

  12. How does his spew result in faster delivery times while consolidating two thirds the amount of processing centers… This sounds just like shite from the Obamanation play book… Either way the game is rigged in their favor for cutting more jobs and service all the while servicing the public, and promising you it’ll be okay… The guy has brain matter equivalent to the hole in a doughnut…
