In June 2015 OSHA issued ‘A Guide to Restroom Access for Transgender Workers’ with little fanfare. This issue should have received wide media coverage so workers nationwide would know of the new policy on use of restroom facilities.
November 10, 2015 PITTSBURGH — Members of the clerks union at the post office on the city’s North Side have voiced their concerns to management about transgender women using the ladies’ restroom. It is a matter that drew the attention of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, under the Department of Labor.
OSHA issued rules that mandate transgender employees be allowed to use restrooms associate with their declared gender.
It says: “a person who identifies as a man should be permitted to use the men’s restroom and a person who identifies as a woman should be permitted to use the women’s restroom.”
None of the postal employees involved in the dispute would talk publicly but the dispute is confirmed by their respective unions, the National Postal Mail Handlers Union, representing the transgender women and the Postal Workers Union, representing female employees. Read more
OSHA publishes guide to restroom access for transgender workers
As a transgendered Mail Processing Equipment Mechanic, I don’t understand why it would even be an issue. At my facility I am already using the Women’s Bathroom without any issue. Keep your mind OUT OF MY PANTIES!!
That’s because it is a JOKE….I’m sure OSHA has bigger fish to fry instead of dealing with this minor stuff! Take one of the single crapper restrooms from the stupidvisors and mark it “Others”.
This county is becoming a bunch of pansies!!
this is what you get when you throw everyone out of the mental hospital to save money…….that is what the demonrats did in NY.
Forget about what you “declare” yourself as… It should be based on what kind of plumbing you have. If we start making accommodations for everyone who “declares” as something else where will it end?
I declare that I am a fish. He declares that he is a toddler. She declares that she is a genderless being who have advanced far beyond the need to evacuate waste.
During my nearly 31-years as a postal-clerk,I knew virtually nobody in USPS management or the union offices;that were willing 2 seriously deal with Gay/Lesbian or even more so,Transgender issues. At best, such people at USPS r viewed as an annoying joke.
