USPIS offers $5,000 reward in assault of mail carrier in Pottstown, PA

12.23.14 POTTSTOWN, Pa. – A U.S. Postal Service mail carrier was attacked from behind at random while on his normal route in Montgomery County.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service announced Tuesday that it’s offering up to $5,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the assault, which happened around 5 p.m. Saturday near Beech and North Franklin streets in Pottstown.

According to police, the mail carrier was simply doing his job, delivering envelopes and packages in time for the holidays when he was assaulted. He heard a comment from a group of teenagers and seconds later he was struck.

“After he passed them, one of them is believed to have come up from behind and struck him once in the face knocking him to the ground,” said Capt. Robert Thomas, Pottstown Police Department.
