1/16/2020 KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Investigators in Allegan County said they’re waiting for lab reports before determining if the driver of a pickup who slammed into a postal carrier truck will face charges.
The postal carrier in the vehicle was killed after police say her truck overturned in a ditch and caught fire. Since the crash, research by the National Association of Letter Carriers showed growing fire concerns over the Long Life Vehicles. Many have been in service for more than 25 years, according to union memos and letters.
Memos and instruction materials sent by the United States Postal Service to field offices dating back to 2014 show the agency has been aware of fire safety concerns with older vehicles for many years. The concerns revolves around reports of them catching fire despite not being in crashes.
The National Association of Letter Carriers published an article in its Jan. 2019 issue of its monthly magazine The Postal Record regarding the postal vehicles and fire risks associated with them. In the article, the association states the fleet is aging, and the fire risk increasing.
USPS memos point to faulty fuel and brake lines as possible causes to several fires reported over the years.

The simple truth is that it is easy to treat your servants without respect. Where is there anyone really held accountable in management?. The only choice is when will
you leave. The customers have come to the same point. I don’t understand how a
company claims it will be broke by 2024, but refuses to be accountable.
Why isn’t management charged with unsafe work practice? If a low life employee does anything management thinks is unsafe management jumps on the employee! the employee is taken to the office and is disciplined. Yet management can order the servants to drive the fire traps and nothing is said. The truck I drove has been on the road since 1988 and is still being used.
