All USPS leaders are required to complete new training to foster employee engagement
A team of 26 employees has embarked on a mission to help 41,000 Postal Service leaders improve their workplace environments.
The team members, known as engagement ambassadors, are divided among the seven USPS areas and headquarters. For the next two years, the ambassadors will lead required training for all managers and supervisors in their assigned territories.
“The Postal Service is committed to changing its culture,” said Employee Engagement Executive Director Kelvin Williams. “The ambassadors will help us improve our organization, one workplace at a time.”
The ambassadors will train about 60 managers and supervisors in their respective areas each week.
The training consists of a day-and-a-half class that focuses on 12 engagement principles, such as ensuring employees’ opinions count and providing positive feedback.
After managers and supervisors complete the training, they’ll be responsible for implementing the principles in their workplaces.
“The goal is to create a cascading effect throughout the Postal Service,” Williams said.
The ambassadors were chosen from a pool of about 800 applicants. Each ambassador has received extensive training from Gallup, the organization that conducts the Postal Pulse survey.
All managers and supervisors are encouraged to work with their assigned ambassadors and complete the training, which is receiving praise from early participants.
Managers, supervisors and others who have questions should email enagement@usps.gov.

Postal Management is simply too arrogant and too incompetent to realize that training won’t work unless you start at the bottom and work your way up. Employees aren’t trained to do anything with continuity. Everyone is told, just do this, and so everyone does it their own way from the bottom up. The USPS is a disaster area. You’d think that for the money spent, the surveys could have been slanted to where a positive outcome was assured. Then again, management only knows how to shoot themselves in the foot repeatedly, then lie about who did it.
Your supervisor doesn’t have a choice. They are forced to treat carriers and clerks poorly. Their job is on the line. Managers give orders that are opposite of contractual provisions and the sup has to fail, cheat, or browbeat. No other options. When all the grievances come down, the manager is off to make another office live through his incompetence. Life in the post office has changed.
Management just shuffles around people like a deck of cards, I’ve been in transportation for 21 years and my supervisors and managers never held a commercial license, safety talks in transportation that’s a damn joke and when we do have them it’s always about the building and never about transportation, here’s my suggestion seeing that the Big Wigs read these comments why don’t you hire people with college degrees that have skills in these positions as managers as in UPS and FedEx bring that kind of experience in here and it probably run better.P.S ambassadors? What a bunch of dumbasses.
Management is one of the major problems, but not the only problem. The Post Office is not run properly as a business to make a profit. The unions and the Post Office do not work together to create a better business. There are two entirely different delivery systems doing the same jobs. Why? One wears a full postal uniform and the other whatever they could find in the closet. Is this how you run a multi billion dollar company? How about the pay and work hour differences. Or the vehicles used, Do you see UPS or FEDEX using private vehicles for half their deliveries. Where is the professionalism?
The only way to improve the Postal Service is to restructure the entire system. Not just improve one service area at a time.
Screw up move up!
Just a waste of money. Management has no intention of every treating the employees with respect! The employee is nothing but a source of labor, nothing more. The Postal Service makes sure that management has a supply of prick pills.
I see a lot more useless management positions needed to roll out this program.
Translation: “Since the employees wised up, and realized we use their paraphrased answers on employee surveys against them during contract talks, we came up with this idea to do the same thing.
An additional part, is that we can use any ideas they come up with, and continue to claim them as our own, get the usual bonus, etc.”
What a joke. Just another wasteful PO snow job. THE TOOLS
and THUGS will never change. Evil, vindictive unhuman beings.
Fire them all
just get the workers a discount on UPS stock….thats all I want. this place is a lost cause, its done put a fork in it! corruption/nepotism is USPS job #1. do they really think we buy this BS?
Where is the accountability going to be? Who is going to monitor the behavior of the incompetent power mad managers? Who is going to make them act right or treat employees with dignity and respect? NO ONE. No one is doing it now. There is no accountability and there never be. Nothing happens to bad managers, ever! They simply move them somewhere else. This is just another bullshit public relations con job dreampt up by some postal suit trying to justify why he has the job he has.
How about stop training managers using bullying and intimidating tactics?
My MDO started out as a casual and worked her way up. Her gender and skin color pushed her up the ladder. She has absolutely no people skills, being a MDO, her typical day is to walk the floor, watching employees, barking orders, clip her finger nails and looking for potlucks. She’s now retired but her replacements act just like her. I’m sure your facility have one like that too. So that’s our culture, 12 hrs of training is not going to change that culture, ever. It’s a form of window dressing because the last survey’s results is like a slap in the face to the managers.
C’mon folks. Everyone knows it’s super hard to fire a veteran and especially a disabled veteran!! If their not veterans then their part of the old boy ( fraternity ) system… We have more 204b’s with less than 6 months employment here @ the Harrisburg, Pa P&DC than actual full time career stupidvisors… I get paid to laugh and enjoy the circus..
Scratch and sniff this.
This is an insulting scam designed to try to make themselves look like respectful people in front of arbitrators during contract talks. We know better. Decent people don’t need the program to tell them how to behave, and the abusive ones will ignore it. And how, you brilliant managers who think anybody would fall for this, do you follow up on your supervisors? With a report to file on the computer? I can see that now: “I am treating my craft people with respect. 1) Yes. 2) No.”
All this does is confirm that management in the USPS is among the meanest, sexist, preferential scum in the world. They let people die and do nothing. Forget your stupid training, managers. Craft people aren’t falling for your crock of shit.
So,there will be 26 lucky USPS managers who will have”day-and-one-half,2 snooze, scratch themselves, play with their fingers or nowadays, email, text or”twit” ?These”ambassadors”r the epitome of an act of human futility.
I think you nailed it… They will come around talk to everyone in a series of service talks about being nicer and friendlier. Behind the scenes the bastards are responsible for all the harrasement through MSP’s, GPS, PTR and many other BS programs designed to squeeze the turnip all the while they deny quadruple parcel volumes, crap vehicles, and expanding workload. Hell we might even get another inspiring video from the PM General. Woot!
I don’t expect any changes in the culture of USPS. There are many, many, incompetent, stupid, lousy, very rude supervisors, MDOs, etc.. because there are no accountabilities and lack of education, supervisory and management skills at the USPS and therefore we have extremely bad labor management relationship.
There will be no cultural changes. This is a legalistic, manage by intimidation system. THey will send out the goon squad to spred their psycobable and show a few videos. Headquarters will still be pressuring MPOO’s to pound the Supervisor’s to harrass using MSP’s and GPS. Split more routes to capture all that undertime?!?! Sorry PMG the undertime ended about 5 years ago! The volume is back, different, but it’s back.
What a waste of time and money.
If the ropes for dopes program at the Oklahoma training Facility didn’t work what makes them think this will. It’s a waste of money ,time and resources . This problem starts with upper managers making demands on the lower managers and supervisors. They don’t know how to pass the information with respect and dignity. There are so many good managersand supervisors but when they don’t get the results that upper management wants in the time frame they want then it forces the supervisors to the disrespect of the workers. There are also a lot of people that are in supervisor and management positions that can not and will not be good people managers. The only way to fix that problem is remove them from the position they are in. ( fire them ) If the Post Office actually used the surveys they pass out ( which most employee’s throw out ) the ones who do fill them out are probutly the most dissatisified so look at them .
It’s simple, stop hiring managers based on their genitalia or skin color and base it solely on their ability. Stop treating craft employees like they are drooling mouth breathers out to steal overtime and stop acting like management are superior beings. This is the only multi billion dollar business where they put someone with a GED in charge of a station. If a manager does something illegal and gets caught, sexually harasses someone or breaks the rules set for everyone, FIRE THEM. This place is like the Catholic Church, they keep moving the miscreants around instead of getting rid of them. If I was a triple amputee on one hand, I could still count on my remaining fingers the decent managers I have seen in 28 years. The problem with the Post Office is they can’t get anyone decent to manage employees so they let anyone manage and hope for the best. I always tell new 204b’s that they will make mistakes and the union will grieve them, just don’t take it personally, learn from the mistakes you make, but no, they always take it personally and try to “get even” which makes the problems worse.
Riiiiiiiiiiiiight!!!
Didn’t they already do this about 25 years ago? How’d that work out?!
What a waste of money…..Gallup can’t even send out a decent postal questionare. The questions they ask are so broad you’re not sure what they are asking. Or when they ask a question about management, you’re not sure if it’s asking your opinion about the local post master, station manager or supervisor. Now you ambassador’s question ambassadors? Might be a royalty.
