USPS begins search for new postmaster general amid 13 years of net losses

Now that the Board of Governors has enough presidentially appointed members to reach a quorum, the panel has gotten to work on two major objectives: finding a new postmaster general and crafting a long-term strategic business plan.

Outgoing Postmaster General Megan J. Brennan

Postal Governor John McLeod Barger said Wednesday at a board meeting that the board has hired the firm Russell, Reynolds and Associates to lead the search for a new postmaster general.

Brennan, who announced her retirement last month, will step down from her post at the end of January. Despite some reports that President Donald Trump urged Brennan to step down from her position, she told reporters Wednesday that the decision was entirely her own.

“After 33 years in government service [and] five years as postmaster general, it’s time to transition,” she said.

The board’s Strategy and Innovation Committee, Barger said, recently made recommendations on a draft of the Postal Service’s five-year strategic plan and received an in-depth briefing on the agency’s package strategy.

USPS leadership this summer briefed members of the House Oversight and Reform Committee on a draft of its business plan. The Huffington Post first reported in June that the plan would save the agency $5 billion by combining vacation and sick days for postal workers and require employees to pay more into their pension plan, saving USPS $7 billion.

  1. I’d love to see the board appoint a fiscal conservative from the private sector…a Carvin Marvin type, but someone younger and
more ambitious than Marvin was… someone who could come in here and RIF all the useless EAS jobs….get rid of useless middle management, like Bezos did at Amazon.

  2. I noticed that the PMG received a Massive bonus. Why? don’t the big time operators receive enough in compensation? At the same time Postal management, and DAS Fuhrer, wants the indentured servants to work for much less! Just make sure the management employees are taken care of. It always plays out the same. An oil refinery Co. in Philadelphia just filed for bankruptcy. six executives were paid $8.6 million the day before the bankruptcy court case. And they won’t have enough for the lazy employees!

  3. Just paid a bonus to the troll that flushed us down the toilet.
What a bunch of turds running this shithole.

  4. It used to be before the postal service reorganization, that the president appointed the PMG. It was seen as a political favor, since the job was so easy… maybe work half a day and then go play golf at Congressional Country Club…and also get a big salary with benefits and qualify for a big federal pension.

Larry O’Brien…yes the former NBA commissioner was appointed by LBJ in ’64, even though he knew nothing about the US mail….he was a member of the Kennedy mafia who helped JFK get elected…LBJ gave O’Brien this great PMG gig after the assassination…. O’Brien was riding in the car behind JFK on that fateful day in Dallas and had a front row seat of the assassination.

  5. Brennan will transition into what???…. nobody in the private sector will touch her with a ten foot pole…. she’s a loser….her fake MIT Sloan Fellow degree is fooling nobody…. Trump was about to can her, so she left before he disgraced her.

  6. The sorry asses that lay out of work cost millions in overtime. Rather than fire them, those that save their leave are going to lose it so the USPS can balance the books. Management will just give them LWOP

  7. The new person will fire 90% of the salaried employees.
Inspect Rural Routes, and up the price of bulk mail by
1cent. Then they will pay themselves a 10 million dollar bonus.
Not rocket science how to fix this place.
But you can’t have monkey’s running it.

    • You do have a point, that it doesn’t take Lee Iacocoa to take over USPS
to have positive change. A little accountability would go a long way with the public. The last two Postmasters didn’t value good workers at all. A good leader could breath life in this sinking ship.
