The local post office in Mumford, TX closes its doors in a couple of weeks
(MUMFORD, TX) — People in Mumford are weighing their options now that their post office will close in less than two weeks because the land the post office sits on was sold to the Union Pacific Railroad.
The United States postal service is declaring it an “emergency suspension” of postal services, which reduces the number of hours existing offices would be open. The Mumford office is only open two hours per day, and is closed on Sundays.
People in Mumford have a few options: they can get street delivery by a rural carrier, and they can also use those carriers to send letters and packages. If they want to get a P.O. Box, they will have to get one through the Hearne post office, and the remainder of the money they owe on their current rental agreement that started in Mumford will carry over to Hearne until that term is up.
