Election season is here so it’s important to be aware of Election Mail and Political Campaign Mail regulations. From now until the mid-term election Nov. 4, both Election and Political Campaign Mail will be entering the mailstream.
The 2014 Postal Bulletin Election Mail kit contains the following new items for this year’s election cycle:
- The Domestic Mail Manual (DMM) section 703.8, Balloting Materials, was revised effective Oct. 7, 2013.
- An Election Mail checkbox was added to PostalOne! and Postage Statements 3602R, 3602N, 3600PM, and 3600FCM, effective Jan. 26, 2014. This change helps provide visibility of all official Election Mail entered into the mailstream.
- A change that enabled cancellation of all mail processed on USPS letter automation-compatible postage cancellation systems was effective March 20, 2014. This change, among other uses, will allow identifying the cancellation date of ballot materials, voter registration cards, absentee applications and polling place notifications.
Additionally, employees should be alert for the green Tag 191 and for the Official Election Mail logo to identify election mailpieces for proper handling and processing.
