USPS Flags at half-staff for US Ambassador to Libya Killed In Attack

President Obama has issued a proclamation directing the U.S. flag be flown at half-staff as a mark of respect for the memory of John Christopher Stevens, United States Ambassador to Libya, and American citizens killed in the attack on a U.S. diplomatic facility in Libya. The flag must be flown at half-staff now until sunset, Sept. 16, 2012.

This observance is in addition to respects the country is paying to the late astronaut Neil Armstrong, whose date of interment is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 14.

When flown at half-staff, hoist the flag to the peak for an instant and then lower it to the half-staff position. The flag should be raised to the peak again before it’s lowered for the day.
