USPS issues new travel card guidelines – cash advances no longer authorized

usps2013Officers and Postal Career Executive Services (PCES) employees with government-issued individually billed travel cards no longer can use their cards for cash advances.

The new directive went into effect May 2 for PCES employees, and will become effective May 15 for all Executive and Administrative Schedule (EAS) employees.

The change doesn’t affect other features of the card or the ability for employees to pay for travel-related expenses.

The change is being implemented because employees already use their cards to pay for most travel expenses and no longer need cash advances for expenses made when they’re traveling on business. In addition, research by the travel card provider and other companies revealed cash advances no longer are a standard component of travel card programs.

USPS will make this change in the travel card policy in appropriate publications. A management instruction incorporating these and other changes in travel policy also is being prepared.
