USPS launches program to further secure customer data

The Postal Service annually processes more than 350 million credit transactions. Whenever a customer uses a credit or debit card at a retail location or on usps.com, the Postal Service initiates multiple technical safeguards to ensure timely and safe processing of the transaction.

To further increase security and privacy of customer credit card information and to meet the latest industry card data protections, USPS is implementing the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Compliance Program. This program builds upon existing USPS requirements and policies for ensuring the security and privacy of customer data.

The PCI compliance program has also been added to the Strengthening Financial and Risk Management Capabilities initiative as part of DRIVE — the high-priority program focused on implementing key USPS business strategies.

To learn more about the program’s benefits and approach to PCI compliance, please review the PCI Facts Sheet or visit the PCI website.
