USPS: Leased building to remedy Napa mail delivery issues after earthquake

Napa City Carriers Move Into Leased Building, Temporarily

NAPA — As a result of the 6.0 earthquake, one of the immediate needs for Napa’s city carriers was finding a new building to work out of instead of an open area in the rear parking lot of the Main Post Office on Trancas. They got their wish and were given the news by Napa Postmaster Juliana Davison on Friday, August 29, during a visit by Chief Operating Officer of the USPS, Meg Brennan, who arrived from Washington, DC, to talk to them and ask them personally what the Postal Service could do for them.

Early Tuesday morning, Sep. 2, they reported to a 50,000 sq. ft. building at 2751 Napa Valley Corporate Drive, Building #3, in Napa. With the cooperative effort by the County of Napa, specifically Steve Lederer the Napa County Public Works Director, Laura Anderson, the deputy County Counsel, and Michael Moffett of Coldwell Banker Commercial Brokers of the Valley, their diligent work made it possible to piece together the details with the USPS Facilities Department and the Bay-Valley postal district leadership.

The lease is for two months with an option to exercise a third month. The short-term lease allows the Postal Service to remedy the mail delivery issues in Napa as a result of the earthquake.

Retail and PO Box customers will continue to be served at the Napa Main Post Office, 1625 Trancas Street, Napa, CA 94558. There is a mobile unit on site to provide postal services. Caller service hours for PO Box customers are from 9 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Photo ID required. Napa Main Post Office customers who put in a “Vacation Hold” are cautioned that their mail will not be released until the re-deliver date because vacation-hold mail will be kept at the leased building on Napa Valley Corporate Drive.

PO Box customers from the Franklin Post Office, 1351 2nd Street, 94559 will continue to pick up their mail at the Wine Valley Post Office, 820 Randolph Street, Napa CA 94559. PO Box Will-Call hours are 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. PO Box customers must provide photo ID.

Signage at all affected Post Offices are posted to direct customers to alternate locations. Customers can go to usps.com for information on alternative access points more convenient for them.

  1. How do you get the mail that was in the post office on Franklin at the time of the earthquake? There should be at least 2 days of our mail in the building and it is red tagged.
