YONKERS – Turn To Taras continued probe into mail delivery problems across Westchester County reveals that the problems are widespread.
A recent Freedom of Information request filed by News 12 shows 164 complaints made in the past year alone.
A majority of the complaints come from residents in Yonkers, where problems range from lost checks and missing bills to undelivered medication and important tax documents.
Its just unacceptable, said Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano. This is the United States Postal Service, and there should be no better service in the world than the USPS.
Rep. Nita Lowey also shared a letter she sent to the postmaster general, describing a wide range of structural issues that continue to plague local mail delivery.
Its outrageous they can’t get their act together at the Postal Service, said Lowey.
Management constantly blames workers for lack of productivity but they can not supply workers with the proper equipment to process and distribute mail. Hampers with wheels on them made it efficient to sort and distribute the mail. Over time the hampers have dissapeared and been replaced with inefficent cardboard boxes on plastic pallets, no wheels ! This slows the process down and causes problems. The boxes have to be assembled by the postal workers taking a lot of time where with the hampers there was No assembly required.
Get us the proper equipment so we can perform out jobs the way they are intended to be.
There are less and less employees than even just a few short years ago. Full time career people that retire or are paid to leave are not being replaced with career employees but more of a casual pert time employees. Lack of a skilled workforce will not get any better in the future.
How can you expect efficiency and productivity with unskilled employees and lack of the proper and efficient equipment that we no longer have ? Safety ? that is a joke as well.
The only ones who know and speak the truth are the regulars who get harassed for taking the time to do the job correctly. Every new employee is just told to run, and don’t worry about forwards or vacation holds. As many regulars are going to be retiring very soon, you are now seeing just what the future holds. Totally uncaring bosses and new hires, so very sad.
Upper management has cut the workforce so much, there is nobody to work the mail inside or out.
welcome to the real world.
How are those new delivery standards and hiring practices
working out Meghen?
Past time to cut management jobs and hire carriers! Put service back into the Postal service. How come the management employees that love to O. D. on donuts can’t understand that if the Postal Service goes under, they will be done. They will then be required to work without luxury.
