USPS Offer to APWU Retirees for Holiday Clerk Assistant

Note: Many retirees may welcome returning to USPS for 6 weeks. However, some readers are saying that they never got the notice. USPS sent out the notie more than likely to the last known address of the retiree–which may not be current. USPS did not post this notice on its website for postal retirees….WHY??

A USPS letter soliciting APWU retirees  to be a Holiday Clerk Assistant.

APWU, USPS signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) last month to reemploy retirees as Holiday Clerk Assistants during the “peak” season. The deadline to apply for this position is October 19, 2015.

The USPS letter sent out to retired clerks:

Dear Postal Annuitant:

We want to make you aware of a special employment opportunity with the United States Postal Service during the upcoming 2015 holiday season.

The Postal Service will be staffing post facilities nationwide with temporary Holiday Clerk Assistants (HCAs) during the upcoming 2015 holiday season in an effort to help us meet the delivery needs for our anticipated increased package and mail delivery business. Holiday Clerk Assistants will perform duties such as package sortation, distribution duties and customer assistance in the retail area.Your knowledge and experience may make you an excellent candidate for reemployment with the Postal Service as a HCA. We are looking to have annuitants like you on the Postal Service rolls by mid to late November.

Generally, the law requires that the salary of a reemployed annuitant be reduced, or offset, by the amount of the annuity to prevent dual compensation. However, for the holiday season, retired postal employees hired into a HCA positions will continue to receive your full annuity without reduction or offset.

Special conditions apply for these noncompetitive appointments, including:

• Pay rate is established at $15.63 per hour.

• Appointment duration is limited to  consecutive pay periods (six weeks).

If you are interested in reemployment with the Postal Service as a Holiday ,Clerk Assistant, please call or write the District Human Resources Manager in the District where you are willing to work. We need to know which offices you would be interested in serving and how best to contact you if an opportunity arises for which you can be considered. You can use this letter if desired, by completing the below requested fields and returning the completed letter to the appropriate District Human Resources Manager.

During the last holiday season the Postal Service proved that it was a package-delivery business that could meet customer-service delivery demands in a timely and efficient manner. We would truly appreciate your help to continue that holiday tradition during the upcoming season.

Whether or not you choose to apply for reemployment as a Holiday Clerk Assistant, we thank you for your years of service to our customers in the past and wish you and your family a safe and enjoyable 2015 holiday season.

 Sincerely,

  1. bring in the clowns they are already here…..don’t bother to come to our plant……we have a few in manual case that are in high 80’s age wise and one who is 92………to postalizied to even think about retirement. they laughed at the 2009 15K “get out”! can’t blame em pay scale with current real inflation rate sucks…….retire and in 5 years you will be eating cat food.

  2. I heard about this offer on October 17 from a friend. I have called my H.R., my shared services dept., and OPM. Each of them sent me to the other, and around we went until I finally stumbled on this site. But now it is October 22. I wish someone could have helped my 5 days ago. I am looking to work in the area in and around Akron Ohio. Would REALLY appreciate any help available.

  3. I know exactly how this job would work. One morning you show up and all the window clerks called in sick or are on annual leave. They shove a cash drawer in your hands and say “Go work the window all day by yourself on a POS SYSTEM that you know very little about and is really slow, with a line of customers out the door! ” no thanks, I had enough of that abuse during my regular career!

  4. I am interested in work offered to retired APWU postal workers. Areas of north Phoenix, AZ and nearby cities to include Peoria, Glendale, Sun City, El Mirage.
Please let me know if I can help during the holiday season. Thank you.

  6. I’m only interested in Palm Coast offices if something available. I live in Palm Coast and don’t wish to travel, did to much up north.I retired June 30 this year and did pretty much everything in my 30 year career.Even did window relief some 25 years ago. I’ll be mailing in paper with info about reemployment to district office. Thank you for your response. Mark A Heck
