LONG BEACH >> The U.S. Postal Service has opened a new “Mega Passport Office” at the former Long Beach Processing and Distribution Center at 2300 Redondo Ave., which the Post Office closed in 2012 due to budget cuts.

This new passport office is separate from the retail lobby where customers buy stamps and ship packages, and has additional staffing and expanded hours to make it easy to apply for a U.S. passport, officials said.

No appointment is required. Walk-in hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The Postal Service has the products and services needed to submit a new passport application. Passport photo service is available for an additional fee of $15. Expedited processing is also available, including Priority Mail Express delivery of the passport, with tracking and insurance.
