From USPS News Link:
USPS is considering how best to offer health insurance coverage to non-career employees who meet requirements defined in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA).
Approved by Congress in 2010, PPACA requires large employers to offer employees specified levels of coverage at an affordable cost by Jan. 1, 2014, or face possible penalties.
USPS presently employs approximately 35,000 non-career employees who may qualify for coverage under PPACA. No change in health insurance coverage is needed for USPS career employees or annuitants.
The Postal Service is exploring health care options for its PPACA-covered non-career workforce and has issued a “request for proposal” to health insurance providers.
The final details of any plan will be subject to relevant collective bargaining and other legal obligations.
