USPS puts nearly all plants scheduled for consolidation or closure on hold

May 22, 2015- USPS announced major changes to the Phase II-2015 USPS Network Rationalization Consolidation schedule in its Friday update..  USPS has suspended all remaining closures and consolidations from a scheduled move date in 2015 to “To Be Determined.” USPS plants Asheville, Houston P&DC and Queens P&DC are the only exceptions.

aapwun3PostalReporter.com  reported this “rumor” several days. USPS also notified some postal employees in a stand-up talk several days ago. Now, the National APWU Vice President is reporting the same or similar information. Postal Employees were told USPS has suspended plant consolidation/closures until April 2016.

This afternoon the USPS posted almost everyone on the consolidation list to (TBD) To Be Determined. That is all we have right now other than some verbal discussion Coordinators and other locals have had that some of the TBD could be on hold  October of 2016 and or until 2016. We are hoping to receive a letter to clarify this action done on the RIBBS. We hopefully can breathe easy temporarily. Good news for the Holiday Weekend.

Yours In Solidarity, Debby Szeredy/VP

  1. fly over country did not want locality pay for east & west coasts-voted down at all yearly conventions…………I have been laughing for the last 4 years watching you low iq fanooks in bum fcku iowa moving around like a bunch iraq refugee’s. roflmfao!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! pay back is a dish best served cold.

  2. Too late for us at Northwest Boston.
    Our Plant closed April 18th.
Management was in a frenzy to get us all out so the bldg could be sold in July.
The Sale has fallen through because of the contamination of the ground around the bldg.
The USPS know owns a vacant facility.

  3. even if USPS management were to come out tomorrow and announce that all future consolidations were suspended or canceled it really is a moot point. the damage is done. usps management has degraded service standards and screwed over the customers and employees to the extent that the damage can’t be repaired. keep in mind that the plant consolidations WERE NEVER ABOUT SAVING MONEY by transferring work to another facility. of course, this is what the liars donahoe and brennan falsely told the employees, public, and congress. the unions failed miserably in showing that the usps costs actuall y went up with the moves of the mail! this information was available to the unions but for some reason they chose not to take this route. postal management saved money only by forcing senior employees into retirement rather than drive an hour or hour and a half each way to work and take a different job! this was the main goal of the donahoe/brennan consolidation plan~~ FORCE OUT SENIOR EMPLOYEES INTO RETIREMENT BY TRANSFERRING THEM TO A DISTANT FACILITY. and do this under the false pretenses that the usps could save processing costs by transferring the work to a distant city and hope the union and the public were too stupid or too lazy to expose the REAL reason that usps management was moving the mail around! what the idiots donahoe and brennan didn’t figure on was how many loyal postal service customers they would drive away by delaying the mail and
hurting already poor service with their idiot consolidation plan.

  4. Do you ever wonder why the post office has done so poorly from the decline in 1st class mail? The average price price for standard mail is 20 cents per letter! The P.O. charges small mailers between 30 cents and 40 cents per letter according to USPS.com website. So if small mailers pay that amount and the average price is only 20 cents per standard letter, how little are big mailers actually paying for postage?

Here is the link for the 2014 annual report of the post office. Page 43 of the PDF shows that revenue from standard mail was $16,428 million with 79,496 million pieces delivered.

    • letter mail and flats going to brooklyn………building getting a remodel for parcels. 2 FSSS machines going to be jammed in some how. employee’s scattered to the wind during construction……..they say 6 months, I say two years. you know the contractor is going to milk it and rape the idiots running this dump! its the postal way. hey at least they are not closing down Shanghai Joe’s! worry about the real important issues.

  5. Sad news and of course while APWU leaders had their lips attached to mgmt. rears they were the last to hear the news.

  6. News Flash people…. Plant consolidation was the brain child of PMG Brennan, before she became the PMG. It was never Donahoe’s idea. This all started way back when she was the AVP for the Northeast Area. Tour consolidation was just the first step of many to close plants down. Plant closing were planned years in advanced before Donahoe. Why do you think she made PMG in the first place?

  7. This is a direct slap in the face to the tens-of-thousands of postal employees and their families who have been in limbo for the last three-and-a-half years, unable to make basic life decisions based on little or no information from Corporate. The Phase 2 list disappeared entirely for over a year and the Nationals did NOTHING!!! They need to address this directly as a blank sheet with a big ‘?’ mark in the middle of it would have been about as useful. The Nationals had better not even entertain the notion of allowing Corporate to use this as a ‘bargaining chip’…

  8. When is the USPS going to stop treating it’s employees & the public like mushrooms? (Kept in the dark and fed shit!!) Enough of the lies and bs already! The morons, criminals, and thieves at Postal HQ should be held accountable and prosecuted!! As C.J. stated…once this onion starts getting peeled, we’ll find a lot more stink! CANCEL these consolidations and closings.

  9. we in rocky mount nc were told last thurs we were closing, then on tues we were not.thats great but for the last 4 years they said we were closing and they have run many people away thru transfers and early outs..we are so short handed we cant run the mail without an ungodly amount of ot

    • I just transferred from Gulfport, MS to Mobile, AL. Even short handed, Gpt. is a great, top 10% facility. Mobile is absolutely awful and can’t even make their own dispatch most of the time. Imagine when their volume is nearly doubled over night. Now, just imagine this happening all over the country. Wishing I’d just stayed in Gpt. and taken my chances…

  10. I think it’s long past time for the unions , businesses and general public to get some answers to the obvious. Once again, it’s been 3 years since the announcements to consolidate these plants to “reduce the footprint of the Postal Service ” due to the dire financial crisis, plummeting mail volumes, excess personnel, facilities and underutilized processing capacity. which are still being touted by our qualified management at postal HQ. That’s their P.R. After 3 years , there is NO crisis, this is further evidence. The Network Rationalization Plan is a FAILURE. Reports of delayed mail nationwide and forced overtime to process mail which the USPS says doesn’t exist. We’re overstaffed until a lip is put in for A/L and then we’re denied because we’re shorthanded, and have too much mail to process . Enough with this scam already. It’s time for the unions to get the stones to go after these so-called executives and tell them the workers, that’s right, the workers, are tired of being used like a yo-yo and settling for breathing easy temporarily ,and CANCEL, not postpone or delay this disaster, and treat the workers with dignity and respect, like their P.R. service talks claim! I wonder , being that the USPS hired the union-busting law firm to help them with negotiations, if this is just a tactic to dangle a carrot in front of our negotiating team so we give more back without going to arbitration? It’s time for PMG Megan Brennan to step up, show she’s not another Patrick R. Donahore, and CANCEL these consolidations and closings. If not, do the honorable thing and resign. These contracts with Fed-Ex, UPS, Staples, Pitney Bowes and others should be investigated , as should current and former postal executives. No more secrets! I think once this onion starts getting peeled, we’ll find a lot more stink!

    • Well said and no doubt!!! I guess the Nationals will prove their mettle, or lack thereof, this round of negotiations. I had high hopes for the new ‘leadership’ @APWU, but have not been very impressed with what I’ve seen so far.

Not much hope for the PMG as she started in craft at the same office as Donahoe. She was also the spearhead for the rationalization effort before her move up to PMG. Thinking she’s realizing that an implosion is eminent and that she’ll bear the brunt of the blame, whether-or-not it’s actually her ‘fault’…

  11. wait a second…is the new postmaster general realizing that the old pmg was a retarded jackass like the rest of us allready knew? these plant closures are going to be a disaster.,,,slowing down the mail, etc. i hope she cancels them.

  12. Demonrat Sen Diane Feinstein and husband Richard Blum put a hold on their no bid postal real estate contract sales while they enjoy the summer………they will start selling again in Sept. Postal OIG has told them they will make sure the pole stays greased………move along now and go protest in front of a Staples. remember demorats good, rethuglians bad! enjoy your 1% you greedy slugs.

    • Totally unrelated as this concerns processing facility closures/Network ‘Rationalization’ and you’re referencing the complicit theft of 100’s of landmark properties in the form of historic branch offices closed due to RAOI/PostPlan… Corporate is virtually handing these over to CBRE who, in many cases, immediately ‘flip’ them for a 500% profit.

As for bad vs. good, this has ALL come about due to legislation passed in 2003 and 2006 which was unanimously passed on BOTH sides of the aisle when Congress realized the 100’s of BILLIONS which could be siphoned from USPS coffers directly into the US Treasury.

As for picketing, we are in agreement. It’s a waste of time and leaves most with a negative impression. It also fails to address VPO’s, the WalMart contract, etc, etc…
