USPS May Close Part Of Petaluma Mail Center

A Postal Service study recommends closing part of its Petaluma (Csalifofrnia)  mail processing center and moving some of the jobs to Oakland, the service said Tuesday.

About 34 of the North Bay center’s 360 jobs could be affected, spokesman James Wigdel said. The consolidation would save about $1 million.

The service has scheduled a public meeting on the proposal Thursday, Jan. 20, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Petaluma Community Center, 320 N. McDowell Blvd.

“While no final decision has been reached, Postal Service managers will give an overview of the reasons for the proposal and its possible outcomes, and will listen to community input and concerns,” the service said.
