December 23, 2016 – USPS Announces A Phased Transition For Marketing Mail
In January 2017, Standard Mail will undergo a name change and be rebranded as USPS Marketing Mail. It is expected that this name change will better communicate to mailers how this mail class can be used. In response to feedback from the mailing community, we are implementing this change in a phased transition period to allow both hardware and software changes to be implemented successfully.
· The new indicia and/or postage markings should not be used for letter or flat mail until January 2018 at the earliest.
· Tray label and pallet markings will be deferred until mid-2017 at the earliest.
Other types of changes, such as changes to postage statements and forms, can move forward with the January 2017 price change. This phased transition period will allow both hardware and software changes to be implemented successfully. A schedule will be published in early 2017 to assist mailers with implementation.
The Domestic Mail Manual (DMM®) and DMM Advisories are available on Postal Explorer (pe.usps.com).
USPS prices changes effective January 22, 2017:
I was in the Bulk Mail Entry Entry when Bulk Mail became Standard Mail. We threw out cases of tray labels, and cases of postage statements because they didn’t say Standard Mail.” Plus any mailer using a rubber stamp indicia had to get a new one made which said “Standard Mail,” which pissed them off. And those who didn’t comply with new forms, new tray labels and a new imprint we refused their Mail which really pissed them off.
And so the same thing will happen again.
This saves the USPS NO money ( it will cost money as forms and labels must be updated) and doesn’t expedite anything, so what’s the point of it? Because it > sounds< better?
I guess this justifies a big bonus for some paper-pushing, report generating twit at HQ.
Ask somebody who works in a BMEU. Still accounts for roughly 60% of all income for the USPS. You’re still going to see Standard Mail printed on the indicia/meter strip until Jan 2018. I’ve been here long enough to know there’s always some sort of change going on. Keeping up with it all is getting harder as I age. So what? I’d like to retire in a couple of years, but I have a strong suspicion government institutions are either going to be privatized or destroyed outright within the next four years. Strap on your seatbelt. The Trump kleptocracy will begin soon enough.
Should’ve called it Junk Mail No One Wants!(JMNOW). EVEN the Elderly call it that and don’t want it. STRAIGHTINTHETRASH!
Junk ,standard, marketing mail it doesn’t matter it almost all ends up in the recycle bin. These mailers are using out dated mailing list and a very high percentage end up never hitting the mail box. It’s easy money for the printers and post office. But Joe is right the big money is in parcels but who are us to tell the big buck people how to make decisions.
It should be a requirement that the idiot who thinks up ideas like this and the amount of the bonus they received must have their names and position posted for all to see.
This is funny. Not surprising, but funny. If anybody still thinks this business is in dire straits financially, better look again. If we were then that would be the focus, not this other crap.
Dear SGT. Friday, the Postal Service has an artificial, manufactured, invented, asinine health care cost! No other organization in the world must pre pay for health care costs like the Postal Service must. Just make UPS and Federal Express pay their health care costs 75 years in advance! That will never happen. Our government does everything they can to protect business. Both the Ratpublicans and Businesscrats. So until every one else must pay for health care costs 75 years in advance, forget about the “Postal Losses.” If UPS isn’t stuck with such crap, then why should the Postal Service? Just thank ex President Forrest Gump! He couldn’t even find the weapons of mass deception.
These inbred clowns at L’Enfant Plaza are basically just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic before Trump rips them a new one.
I see that Kristen is hard at work justifying her cushy job Maggie created!!
Just brilliant Kristen!!! You really brainstormed on that one! SMH!!
Express Mail……………….Priority Mail…………………………….Express Priority Mail………………………………….good God can these dopes waste money. How much is it going to cost “to rebrand” junk mail? President Trump needs to get a team of retired executive’s from Fortune 500 companies to come in and do a “public service audit” of po mismanagement from top to bottom. they lost 5.3 Billion this year alone (another 5.8 if you add that pre-funding canard) with no end in sight…..and now this stupid waste of assets.Trump has already gone on record since he won election that he is going to fire Hospital Administrators over at the VA……hope he moves to this sooner, rather than later!
over $105 Billion Loss since 2009 and these dumb morons keep their focus on how many angels can dance on the head of a pin. it’s called junk mail by most Americans that makes little, if any, meaningful profit. Parcels, Parcels, Parcels, Parcels!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Follow The Money and take a business marketing course. do you ever see UPS/FDX do this nonsense? how about focusing on clean mail trucks and clean tractor-trailers instead of dirty rust buckets………you have a poor image problem in more ways than one! I wonder why?
The names have been changed, but it’s still the same junk. This cutesy phrase means absolutely nothing unless more postage is charged and “marketing mail” can be forwarded.
I view this latest waste of money and resources right up with car companies who don’t have “sales” anymore. It’s all “events”, like we ought to put them on our calendar. “Look, dear! Crankshaft Motors is having a sales “EVENT”! Let’s call in from work and get some fireworks and go out on the lot and celebrate!”
For shit’s sake, can’t anybody just call something what it is? Why do we suger coat and namby pamby everything to make it sound special? Does anybody think Wal-Mart is fooling anybody by calling its horrifically underpaid, abused workers “associates”?
Bulk business mail is what it is. Not that the Service doesn’t benefit from it, but you just know given how they screw everything else up a lot of money will be wasted and pocketed somewhere while carriers can’t get new LLV’s that are catching fire, breaking down, and beyond repair. Some CCA’s are given days off in direct violation of Article 8 of the JCAM that mandates they work before regulars not on overtime desired lists have to work overtime because there are not enough LLV’s to go around. Plus the fact they look like the pieces of shit they are with rust, gray primer and scratches and dents all over them, decals worn off, and are an embarrassment.
So management plays games with the naming of classes of mail.
