USPS: Retail Systems Software coming to more than 400 Post Offices nationwide

From left, Hebron, CT, Postmaster John Wardwell; and Retail Associates Ron Haugh and Julie Uricchio have tested the new RSS software.

As part of the Postal Service’s continuing plan to replace its current retail system software, more than 400 Post Offices nationwide will receive Retail Systems Software (RSS) this summer.

This upgrade — to be completed by mid-August — will set the stage for national deployment of RSS in February 2015.

RSS has been tested at various pilot sites since 2012, including in Hebron, CT, where Retail Associate Julie Uricchio says it’s simple to use. “It’s more intuitive,” said Uricchio, comparing it to previous Point of Sale (POS) software. “The screen is set up differently, menus are organized more logically by task; there aren’t as many layers to go through when performing a task.”

Uricchio said RSS training took about 4 hours, and she’s looking forward to easier updates of the POS machines when there are future price changes.

RSS replaces software on POS, self-service kiosk and Contract Access Retail System equipment. Hardware for these systems will remain the same.

Outside USPS, the software is being used in more than 30 countries for retail postal needs, including self-service locations, electronic parcel locker kiosks, franchises, remote access offices, foreign military offices and embassies.

RSS is part of the DRIVE Access Optimization initiative. Visit the Customer Services Operations and Retail site on Blue for more information on RSS.
