USPS solicits proposals for assorted small arms ammunition

Hmmm.. Is this in response to a Postal Reform Bill amendment by Senator Rand Paul  that allows guns in the post office? Seriously, here is the proposal

From Federal Business Opportunities:

Place of Performance:
Within the 48 contiguous United States (CONUS) as well as Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico.

USPS Ammunition

  1. I think that there should be no guns allowed in the post office. Everytime their is a shooting it is because someone brought has a gun. Right? It is also very dangerous for security gaurds to have guns in banks, malls, schools, theaters – but specially banks. I think that the police should be armed with a clipboard and a pen. Write down infractions and then send suspected criminals a letter in the mail. Guns are dangerous. No one should be allowed to have them. It just leads to trouble.

  2. When I started at the USPS back in 83 as a mailhandler, one of the duties of a mailhandler was to arm themselves and protect the mail in case of civil insurrection. we even had an armory in the basement of our facility.

I believe this is a general solicitation for the inspectors. I haven’t heard anything about the USPS arming itself. That would be the ultimate irony though 🙂

  3. When I started there was a 38 in the red room and at the window. A few on every shift would qualify in the basement with wax ammo. Back then we also transported bags of currency (going to a fed reserve bank) in HCR trucks and over a $$ amount one of us would ride along~ armed with a 38. Then came the frightened bleeding hearts around 1980 or so..

  4. I was thinking the same thing but the OIG and pis in the past post a notice under their category or something similar.
