USPS takes steps to grow package business

The Postal Service is taking new steps to grow its package business, part of a broader effort to attract new customers and boost revenue.

“Make no mistake: The Postal Service is committed to growth. We’re doing everything in our power to build our business and increase our volumes, and packages are a big part of the equation,” said PMG Pat Donahoe.

The Postal Service plans to adjust Priority Mail prices in the fall, including reducing rates for high-volume mailers, as well as small businesses and others who ship online. On July 1, USPS notified the Postal Regulatory Commission of the changes, which are slated to take effect Sept. 7.

The pricing adjustments are part of a broader strategy to position the Postal Service for the future. USPS is also streamlining its mail processing operations, which will allow the organization to invest in new package sorting equipment and other upgrades, as it continues to seek legislative changes to update its business model.

Priority Mail is one of the Postal Service’s most popular shipping products, helping to boost USPS package volumes. Last year, 871 million pieces were shipped through Priority Mail, generating $6.4 billion in revenue.

  1. Anyone else see the writing on the wall? Anyone else wonder what is to become of all the empty mail facilicities once the USPS vacates? Hhhmmm anyone think of a large company looking to expand into the mailing industry (mayhaps Amazon posibly)? Wonder if they’ll be in the market for facility processing space in the anytime near future???

  2. Postal mgmt. is incapable of even running the USPS, let alone fixing it’s problems.

Especially since, they are the cause of it’s problems.
