USPS to offer wider array of smartphones

USPS has introduced MobileACE — a phased rollout of smartphones providing employees with more options.

“Smartphones will enable our employees to stay connected, informed and organized while on the go,” said CIO Jim Cochrane.

Starting in April, and continuing in phases over the next few months, BlackBerry users will receive emails with detailed instructions for ordering and activating one of the following new smartphones:

  • iPhone 5s
  • iPhone 5c
  • Samsung Galaxy 4
  • BlackBerry Q10
  • BlackBerry Z10

Upgrading to the new smartphones is voluntary and at the user’s convenience, once they receive the email from IT.

“Mobile smartphones are an essential tool for any business today,” said Information Technology VP John Edgar. “Employees are encouraged to explore the options and choose the best smartphones for them.”

Edgar added USPS will get trade-in credits for returned BlackBerrys.  “Each returned BlackBerry is recycled, helping the green effort,” he said

  1. And will these phones be configured with an open proxy server, so management can tweet & FB their productivity away? Of course they will!

  2. Translation: Someone in postal mgmt is receiving a kickback from this contract.
